Oh, how I want to continue the Run8 tradition, as, I've just got to have it. Sadly, unable to purchase RV for the moment, as, discovered card she no work. Also discovered no work at brick & mortars as well. Upon further investigations, finally learned someone(s) had hacked into my credit union central nerve center during last month or so. Long story short, Cards deactivated, taken away altogether. new to arrive 5/7 business days upwards of 6/8 weeks. I grow hungry as well. With Sean & his ever growing Streams had me trying my hand at Run8 once again. Sadly, I'm discovering, I'm just unable to read any of the text on the DS panels, esp. the GA/FL panels, In the playing world, unable to see signals, markers, various features, many, when just too late to remain in proper train control. I still must have RV & future releases, even though the cobwebs look to be growing ever increasingly. Ah hell. won't be able to see them anyways. I fully support Run8, pretty much all the RR sims / games, for I like the thought, perhaps those younger, learn / get something out of them, maybe help keep out of other troubles along the way. Instill a lifelong love of something worthwhile, tangible, RR, games/sims. pc repair, software dev, artwork, hell even a model layout stashed away in the basement at some point in life to help bring those creative juices out from time to time. What shall we name my next novel?.

I already wear my normal glasses, along with prescribed readers over them, while holding a spyglass up to the screen, course have just about everything enlarged on the 43" screen. Which is troublesome at times for I become disoriented moving about the screen. My O'l memory banks seem to be slipping gears more & more by the day. Dr. Sean, is there anything you can prescribe for the O'l Noggin-Drill?.

A day or two ago I visited somewhere on the net for RRFans & one of it's rules was don't call anyone a "Foamer" for it is considered, rude, racist, you name it, was a whole host of potential infractions attached to "Foamer". Result would be instant ban. I want to say was one of the virtual RR cam sites, but, sorry the O'l cogs have slipped a gear.
In other news, just in AMTK L.A.-Chicago has derailed in MO. multiple fatalities, 50 injured, looks to be roughly 8 cars on their sides.
Anyways sorry not related to Run8, was a quick News Flash. Perhaps another may/could quickly / properly post elsewhere if need be.
Back on Run8 tracks. I will indeed get my hands on RV eventually, eyesight, or no eyesight. Let alone what's left of the "Noggin-Drill".

Perhaps John can program some "described video" in Run8. Either that or the world governments will require their PC agenda to enforce it so we don't offent the blind people. I didn't know calling myself a foamer was racist. Does that mean when a person of............... Ah never mind I'm going to bed before I get into trouble You better get to bed too Scott. We're all 1 bedtime closer to the grave.

Managed to pick this route up recently and I'm enjoying it. It does feel strange leaving the multi-routes of SoCal for a single route. I'm hoping the plan is to add to it. I fired up the old Trainsimulator 'Classic' version of the route just to compare. Run 8 team has done a good job and I'm finding their version more engaging. I'd love to see some old SP GP9's. Cheers,
Kind regards,

Glad you’re enjoying it Dave. To be brutally honest I still haven’t finished a run across the route yet, those terrain textures just jar too much. Think I’ve got the TSC version which I bought years ago. Apart from the odd looking rivers, laid using lofted spline type objects, always thought it was quite good. And of course the terrain artwork looks much nicer, even though TSC sometimes struggles with its own limited palette where ground textures are concerned.
I’m just hoping before the devs consider extending the route, they make a further pass over the route with some better textures.
It’s a route that’s also crying out for some more classic trains whether diesel or steam traction.Vern.

I prefer the R8 version, even tho' (and I agree with Vern) the foliage is not as real-life as the DTG version.IBM XT i386; 512Kb RAM; 5.25" FDD; 1.4Mb FDD; 5Mb HDD; VGA 256-colour graphics card; AdLib soundcard; DR DOS 6.0; Windows 3.0

Foliage also needs a winter/snow texture.
And I noticed on a YT video clip of the route in winter, there's a visual artefact at tile boundaries where the snow texture doesn't show, making the tile grid appear quite obtrusively. Again hopefully something that will be remedied in a patch.Vern.

I took a look via Google at some photos from the area and think the route is visually close. The palette and placeables could use an update- there are some decent enough 3D trees along the route but more 2D (1D?) fillers that encroach the trackage at times. The palette sure could use some updated textures, including rough rock, rock faces, etc. Maybe a smoothing tool as well? That might be limited tho since the game is primarily designed for MP, is it not? Maybe it's done so someone with a potato system/connection can have rendering equal to a higher end machine/connection so as to not bork out and affect others? That's assuming the game is client based rather than server.
Anyway, I've made a couple of end to end runs now and find that after a few minutes I'm well immersed, usually getting cussed out by Otto, and too busy to be a tourist lol. I do like this addition.Avidly simming on the rails:

I'd like to propose with an update to RV route, John implement "Brayle Textures" for those of us that've gone blind. At the very least, bring out the sharp needles on those pines & hemlocks closest to the RofW, perhaps a little sap to the poison ivy & sumac. "As Real As It Gets". Calamine Lotion's in each SH.
