    It Pulls You Back In...

So I fired up Run 8 the last couple of evenings while waiting for the, ahem, competition to finish downloading its 80+Gb data into the new version.

A bit like that quote from The Godfather Part 3 (or maybe The Spranos) I think, "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in."

Finished my first run over Donner and set about sorting out the scattered traffic in Sparks Yard. When the download finished it was like, "Do I have to?" in terms of coming off and going over to the other sim.

A few suggestions from John G. seem to have helped with the lateral juddering, though doesn't seem to be a reproduceable problem and may be hardware related. Not an issue anyway when shunting cars and getting AI trains under way. Though Dopey here managed to route away the train with all the Reno local traffic on it, towards Salt Lake City...

So looking forward to jumping back in again later and at least Run 8 aren't trying to blind us with a poorly implemented adaptive eye effect.

80GB, who has been spending lots of money on TSW2 then hehehehehehe.
GF 3 Vern, you enjoy your gangsters as well then.

I still haven't done a complete Donner run, but i like the route. Just hope they will expand it eventually.

You still have the juddering to a lesser extent then, weird one indeed. I don't know how to do any of that, yard work etc.

Aren't those two destinations, in opposite directions, Vern ?

I am using Reshade with Run8 and it looks nice to my eyes. Not all washed out anyway, like you described, buddy.

    Mike.

Not Run 8 washed out Mike, it's the new routes in TSW3 with the weird lighting.

Sparks is the small yard just to the east of Reno, so a good place to start out from with the industry side of things.

Yes it would be nice to see Donner pushed west towards San Francisco and east towards Salt Lake or even Denver. Now that would be a great run through, especially if Brad and John eventually give us some F units and vintage California Zephyr rolling stock.

Honestly TSW has done a lot for Run8.

I played TSW first, before I even knew about Run8.

I learned about Run8 when asking questions about TSW and seeing comments about Run8.

I learned the basics of running a loco in TSW, which made learning Run8 that much easier.

And most recently with TSW3, I was working the cement plant on BNSF near Victorville.

I'd never worked victorville in Run8 and now with the introduction in TSW under my belt, I couldn't wait to have a go at the same in Run8.

It was great that Run8 included extra track up the mountain that TSW left out, and I found the back and forth to be really interesting.

I noticed a key difference between the sims: My feelings while using them.

When I play TSW, I typically feel anxious - I wonder when the scenario is going to end - often getting bored before the scenario is over. The end of a scenario comes with a bit of relief, followed by a quick exit of the program.

When I use Run8, I tend to lose track of time - I am constantly busy, never bored, and at the end of a session, I can't wait to come back again to move cars that the industry system processed overnight, or to do something I ran short of time on.

Sorry Vern, no idea why i said about not being washed out.

Can i ask buddy, what do i load to get these AI consists in yards. Plus do they already have destinations, so they can be sent on their way. I would love to just watch hump shunting, from ground level, but no idea how it works. Run8 is a bit like Trainz for me. There are all these features like industries etc, but all seem to complicated to get into.

Yes i got all excited when Roseville was released, not realising where it was. Was hoping it was within joining up distance to SoCal. But when i looked at GE, it is nowhere near the present routes. But i like your idea for extending and deffo the F Units and CZ stock.

It's one of the default sessions in Donner. Starts with about 140 consists though I had to delete a few to clean up the main line as Otto was getting confused and ended up with some standoffs.

This whole subject of the thread is a metaphor for my dirty old mind. OK perhaps I should go play with Run8 now since I haven't touched it in a week again.

              Thanks

Confess Sean. You’ve been checking out Cajon in TSW3…

Thanks Vern, i did try it quickly but still no idea how to see the humping

Might uninstall as it is all getting very frustrating now.

It adds something a bit different to the deserts of the SoCal routes but it could have done with a bit more attention in the scenery department (IMHO), tends to reuse the same few ground textures even on the high mountain pass. There are a few YT videos kicking around, might be worth checking those out first.

Been busy with other things besides trains. I fired up Run8 last night. I wouldn't even bother downloading a free copy of TSW3. Looks the same as my free copy of the original TSW. I much perfer open worlds to run then following a bouncy ball. We know the software doesn't require it as I've seen the open ended activities. However it misses how Run8 is superior by having world saves and the capability of spawning trains in on the fly. I'll take the less than "stellar" eye candy any day over the ability to run a simulator and actual railroad.

                            Thanks

What's so bad having all the Train Sims / Games, can't take the funds with Ya, (surely don't go without food to fund a game) hell, each one has something to offer though, "variety is the spice of life". I find at times I'm often able to take something from one apply to the other in some fashion, both original RailWorks, Trainz, several others I used, &, at times still use as test beds, then apply to my chosen ops in Run8 being my fav from which all the others strive to live up to. Even Run8 gets on my nerves at times, during those times I find myself dropping back to RollingLine for my creative juices to feed on, then return to R8 with new found love &, or new / reworked ideas. Besides RLSS has something the others will never have, nor, quite reach "Personal HazMat", I don't believe any of the others have their very own toxic "Community Dung-Carts". Who needs placards?
