    Thoughts On Roseville

Had a conversation on my Discord tonight with Quincy about Roseville. Though less activity than others which is something I'm looking for, I think the double track discouraged me from trying this out (as I do enjoy my meets).

My goal has always been to complete all 24 working hours (yards and switcher) without a territory being too overwhelming. If this is possible, perhaps I overlooked this.

Haven't touched Run8 in several months now after a similar attempt failed for me in Waycross at it's full potential. Since then I've been plenty occupied with both RTS projects as well as Simrail as of late again.

I was also thinking it might be cool to exchange save files with others as the operation progressed. They could host at certain times, I could host at others. Something to consider if and when I grow a bit fatigued with SimRail. It did happen in the past, but I got right back into it again.

    Thanks

Personally, I really like Roseville and think it's the best route for someone new to Run8!

Here are the things thought made it great:
Yard on both ends of the route - this gives a reason to travel from one end of the map to the other
Fairly straightforward F3 Dispatch screen - A single Screen, easy to comprehend.
About 70 industries - just the right amount for a newcomer.
A mixture of industries concentrated together, but also industries that require a bit of travel - Variety keeps it interesting
Freight and Amtrak - Variety keeps it interesting.

I also thought the out of the box config was great - industries, hump config, AI spawning, all configured out of the box.

Sounds like an option if I ever get tired again and want a change.

I still can't engage with the terrain texturing on Roseville, just too green. That said I haven't done much on Run 8 since autumn last year when I briefly tried to do a few things with the very populated SoCal session. However I just couldn't find myself engaging with it. I know we've debated the merits of the various games periodically, but along came the SimRail playtest then I found myself drawn back into TSC and TSW. Run 8 just seems a bit... abstract.

IMHO it needs something to revitalise the experience, be that an overhaul of the existing routes so they look better. A greater variety of territory than just heavy freight. Support for passenger operations to a timetable and the ability to give more complex instructions to AI. Also more variety of motive power, in particular some vintage motive power such as F units or Alcos. Maybe something Canadian, too.
