Something like the Somerset and Dorset line in the late 50's or early 60's before the line was run down would also be great. The problem I could forsee is the obvious one, that R8's very much free play style would need to be adapted to suit the more disciplined and ordered style of operation on UK routes to a working and public timetable, including freight movements. However there is an argument and has been suggested already that the US routes should support this to some extent, so that Amtrak can run to its proper schedule and trains can be specified to spawn at specific times at various locations.
I'd fully support that historical UK route, and as for the timetabling/schedules for freight moves v. passenger, I'd suggest something like Sean M's 'RTS' would be great for that (his 24hr prototypical set up works great for Run 8 and is adaptable to any of the R8 routes, so I imagine with some tinkering it could easily work the UK and Euro style train scheduling).

I've downloaded and played on a couple of your routes, years ago now, from the old UKTS site (one was a trainz route iirc) and they were really nice- you should contact the Run 8 devs and offer to build them a cool Run 8 version of something connectible (like the RW/TSC Great Western). I'd even volunteer to be QA. ^.^

Sadly my eyes and dexterity are not what they were... I also find being retired I actually spend less time sat in front of the laptop doing route building, most of which is confined to model railway style routes in Trainz these days. When I built Cambrian (1) for 3DTS and to a lesser extent the short route I did for Blue Arrow, it was at the expense of pretty much everything else I wanted to do with my leisure time and I couldn't really go back to that. (Can also do without the extra tax hassle). While the mists of time have faded the circumstances I also seem to recall parting from 3DTS not on the best of terms and while I enjoy and support Run 8 for what it is, I prefer to remain as a customer and not a developer.

Perhaps as a consultant then ^.^ If I'm recalling correctly, your attention to detail and making sure everything worked as intended was an ethic a certain production/publishing company should have adopted (or at least not allow it to be swamped by the churning of the DLC train, $$$, and the pencil pushers of the bottom line ilk). Then we wouldn't all be waiting for the 27th April this year for a massive patch *cough*.

Anyway I hope at some point the Run 8 group is willing to take a chance on a UK route (would be cool).

Vern there are a few UK routes on the 3d train stuff website (http://www.3dtrainstuff.com/products...nch/index.html)
Did you develop one or more of these?

No only the original Cambrian (1) from Machynlleth to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli. Someone else was brought in to do the second version (which extended to Shrewsbury), not sure how much of my original was retained as I was never offered a complimentary copy or bought it for myself. The second payware route I was involved with was for the long defunct Blue Arrow group; I threw together something vaguely resembling Woking to Basingstoke for their Southern Region traction pack.

If it's any help, I'd like to offer you a complimentary copy of "External Assistant for Run8"! ;-)

Cambrian is an excellent route by MSTS standards, Vern. I have used it a lot in OR.

Someone has created the whole route for TSC, it's on that Alan Thomson site. I did try and advise him about different things, too much lineside vegetation for the era (50's - 60's) and other details. Usual know it all didn't take the well meant advice.

The worse thing is the amount of payware it uses and how much is duplicated. Like 4 identical trees from 4 different dlc, as an example. Tried to explain about rationalising the assets in TS Tools, another waste of time

Thanks Jack, I might just take you up on that!

Mike - I know what you mean about TSC, of course we have been there with some of the other freeware routes that need a raft of assets from all over the place to run.

Yes Vern, pain in the rear end. Just poor house keeping, not keeping a tight hold on which assets are duplicated.

Sorry boys, i forgot this was the R8 wishlist topic.

                    Mike.

Indeed. To reprise back to the wish list then, we want a Run 8 style Cambrian Coast line and a Run 8 style Somerset and Dorset. John, Brad, Nigel - pretty please!

My understanding is as long as there's someone motivated enough to take on the route building, the Run 8 guys are willing to work with them as a third-party developer, similar to what Jason has done with Hy-Rail.
If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!
