    Update 13 Released!! Switchers!!

Update 13 released. There is a freebie switcher in Run8 livery in the update. Also, they released MP15 Pak 1.

4 Switchers...Amtrak, CSX, BNSF and Union Pacific with pak and update, that is 5 switchers total. Many updates to User Guides and other documentation.

This is Run8's first locomotive that is long hood forward and no dynamic brakes. Many new controls that we are not used to in other loco's. Speed control for humping and Service Selector switch with 4 modes of operation....

Excerpt of Changes for Update 13:

    Update13
    • Fixed TMU list not renumbering properly when using the "Delete Selected" button
    • Fixed not being able to board the T104_TILX_Sulfur tank car
    • Switch Target models have been set to draw a bit further away (328' further)
    • There is a new Custom Input Device interface in the Controls Menu – See the PDF for details
    • Fixed ABS Mode so that mainline switches can be thrown from the DS screen or trackside
    • Units with Flashing Ditchlights now only flash if the Reverser is set accordingly
    • There is a minor fix to Otto regarding a situation where he could have two opposing trains on either end of a
siding, and not be able to allow either one to enter the main\siding track
    • Oh, and then there's the MP15 switcher locomotive. We've included a brief "Operator's Manual" PDF in the
UserGuide folder which mansplains a few things special to these units

Fantastic news. We have been after a switcher for ages. John and Brad listening to our wish lists! Thank you very much guys and well done. I know what I’ll be playing with tonight.

Bought the MP15 pack yesterday evening and very nice they are too. Started a fresh “Very populated SoCal” with them and getting to work with the industry around Bakersfield and the branches.

There has been some debate about the fidelity of the sounds at The Depot and on schaunwatsisname’s YT review. However John G. confirmed they were sourced from authentic MP15 recordings they took on a visit to a Tacoma short line. I like them anyway and they do come across different to the road GM’s in Run 8.

So I can thoroughly recommend and thanks again to John and the team for listening and giving us something quite new to play with.

Wow. Thought the release of these lovely locos would have garnered a bit more interest…

Anyhow one possible bug I’ve found and just want to get a quick opinion from the experts before reporting to John G. If you quickly apply and release the train brake without bailing, the loco brake cylinders are sometimes retaining 5 or 6lb of air. This is not a behaviour I’ve noticed with the road diesels in Run 8 or indeed the MP15’s in TSW. Releasing the train brake should surely release everything just as it applies everything. As a result, you then need to bail the loco brakes off after releasing the train brake to return the pressure to 0.

No interest at all in NA shunting\switching Vern.

Fair enough Mike. But for me it’s the industry side of Run 8 I find fascinating and we’ve been after switchers for ages.

I also noticed on the R8 website that the last route released was of a 30 mile length only.
If that is the direction R8 is going in, then my interest ceases completely, Vern.

Enjoy the switchers buddy, never had an interest in the industry aspect either.

              Mike.

Seems they've been releasing shorter segments more frequently, and those segments stitch together iteratively. Would you rather have something new every 3 to 4 months, or wait a year between updates?
If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!

Sorry, I've been busy simming. The switchers are a great add-in and much needed. I appreciate the patch and the patch-of-the-patch too. 😎
                  Avidly simming on the rails:

Always going to be a trade off. Though I admit to not having bought HSC or the associated branch, basically because I’ve already done them to death in TSC and TSW. Doing shorter routes for not much less than the cost of a much longer route also adds to the expense if you want to join it altogether and as they never seem to do sales or bundles…

Anyhow back on topic, still enjoying the switchers, in for another session just now.

Vern....when you spawn the train with MP15's and hit all the set up buttons (MU setup, Brakes, circuit breakers, EOT,etc), have you used Left+Shift+C (or gauges in the cab) to see if the BC automatically applies to about 5psi? I forget about this prior to moving and when I apply any train brake the BC will climb with the train brake application, but as soon as I release them the BC will stop at 5psi. Once I bail, it does not do that anymore. Only on startup and if I forget to bail off that 5psi first. Other loco's do that too. So, anytime I spawn a player train, I look at the BC gauge and bail off if needed before I move. I can't count how many times I would start my train wondering why I needed more throttle when moving with just 5psi applied to the loco brake. Now....anytime I spawn a train and complete the startup stuff, I check the BC. The MP15's (and others) will apply at least 5psi upon initial startup. Bail before you move.

I will have to check that as obviously I spawned in the MP15's, though fairly certain the loco brake cylinder pressure was 0.. But even so, still sounds like a bug and not something I've noticed before. And this has been happening again after the initial bail off to cure the problem it has then repeated - a further apply and release of the train brake has left 5 PSI sitting in the loco brakes.

Well....not sure about that. I have tested every braking scenario and I haven't had "sticky" loco brakes after releasing the train brake suddenly of gradually. I just know that my stuff once spawned and started and all the auto buttons clicked, I get 5psi on the BC. Once I bail....doesn't do that anymore upon brake application.

                          Drop John a message....

As long as they do stitch together to create a longer run, then that is fine by me Eric.
The very same reason i do not run TSW, all the routes are crappy little sections of longer routes.

They 'stitch' together, but it's all automatic - the user doesn't need to do a thing - buy the route, buy the branch line and they have a route with a connected branchline, all workable in one session.

I know the US stuff isn't your fancy, which is a shame, since it's such a well written piece of software.
