    Adaptec APSI Driver (ASPI32.SYS)

    Hi,

I have been getting a windows error reporting message about ASPI32.SYS Driver that needs updating. This happens when the whole system crashes and restarts, and i`m directed to the Adaptec site for an update. And this only happens when i try to run real player SP. Here are my system specs:

    Compaq Presario CQ40 Notebook.
    Pentium(R) Dual Core T4300 @2.10GHz.
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-Bit.
    Installed Memory 1024MB.
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chispet Family 1280X800.

    Driver details:
File description ASPI for WIN32 Kernel Driver
    Type System File
    File version 4.6.0.1021
    Product name Adaptec`s ASPI Layer
    Product version 4.60(1021)
    Size 24.6KB
    Date modified 10/9/1999 7:06 PM.

I have tried to ask from both Adaptec and Compaq what i should do. Adaptec say they don`t have a version of the ASPI software layer that was ever tested with Windows Vista. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling real player in safe mode and the only recent version of ASPI layer is only compatible with windows XP. Everything else runs smoothly and i don`t know what to do, any help or suggestions would be mostly welcome.

    Hi Bon,

ASPI has been discontinued and is not available for Vista or w7.
You need to find what is asking for ASPI, as its not the OS.

You have a very old application that is asking for it.

Probably a RAID driver as some of them use ASPI

No offense, but none of my computers have, ever have had, and never will have RealPlayer installed on them.

Too much spyware and too many bugs.

If a website insists on using it, I just click on...

The company's track record is dismal. Luckily, there are non-Real RealPlayer alternatives available.

For the original poster, it sounds like it's trying to load facilities for burning to CD/DVD. If you can get into Safe Mode and uninstall RealPlayer, that's where I'd start.

The problem with uninstalling RealPlayer is that you never get rid of it all. It installs a lot of garbage that it doesn't uninstall. Bad thing...

I realize there's no alternative, since they copyrighted their file format. I just don't watch anything that requires RealPlayer...

You can uninstall all of it, if you're aggressive.

That isn't true. There are several 3rd party solutions. Plugins for Winamp, WMP, etc.

I did not know that! Thanks for the correction. I used to use winamp all the time, I don't remember why I stopped using it.
