Laptop Nvidia show ZERO in Taskmanager performance tab

Alienware laptop with dual GPUs...intel and nvidia ( 2070 ) --- noticed low fps on all versions of OR and did some troubleshooting...taskmanager shows the whole load on the intel gpu -- 99% when running OR -- nvidia gpu at zero.

Did a clean install of newest nvidia driver ... install went okay --- did not solve problem...could the laptop gpu switching be stuck on intel?
Worst case, the nvidia is toast...only 3-4 years old... or ... it came unplugged -- both seem unlikely to me...anyway, not going to try to open the case and check. ( of course warranty service expired last year 🙄 )

How to check to see it nvidia gpu is functional? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Gerry

oh yes.... all the win10 settings and Nividia Control Panel for using the nvidia gpu are correct...and they were working up to last week when I started noticing the drop in fps

    Hi Gerry,

On my dual laptop, I had to link the nvidia gpu with open rails to get it to use the nvidia card.
I did this with the nvidia control panel.

I've done that repeatedly and no joy. I just checked the gpu with FurMark2....found the card, test run, I stopped before completion -- taskmanager showed Nividia running at 90% .... so I now know --- no loose connections, and card is alive. I'll go back and recheck nividia control panel...can't do any harm.

Do you target the exe or the folder....I've done both. For exe I use openrails64.exe in monogame.

couple more screenshots --- after having no problems with 60 fps and using Nvidia gpu....I cannot seem to budge off 37-45fps and the Intel gpu.,, no matter what I do.

I have a similar system. Intel is always trying to push the Intel Arc & Iris Xe Graphics. I always block that, and update the nvidia driver through GEForce Experience app. Not sure if that is relevant to your situation

Thanks, not this specifically, but because of that same problem ( and others ) I've started using Gef Experience to update also.

..However, I did solve it finally....I'm positive Nvidia used to accept OpenRails64.exe as the executable --- and that's what I had used to point nvidia towards. Now it appears that the runactivity.exe works. So after switching all OR versions I have running from openrails64.exe to runactivity.exe -- everything is back to normal.

Could have been my muck up also. Although, checking on updates around the same time I noticed the drop in OR fps -- update to bios, update from windows, update from alienware, update from intel, and another from Nividia. Could have been something in the updates. ???
