    Bios

Hi everybody. Can any body help with this please?

I have a Packard Bell EasyNote TE.

I cannot install anything on my Laptop because of the following message:-

    Disable Secure Boot.

Disable Secure Boot Is In Black Text. and am unable to Disable Secure Boot because my up/down arrows will not stop on Disable Secure Boot to do anything with It.

    Hope this makes sense.

Don't know where to go from here?

    Any help please?

    Many thanks

    Paul.

    hello again.

Perhaps I should explain this a little differently.

The Text in my BIOS Pages Are In Black and Blue.

When I cover the Blue Text it turns white to enable me to make any changes. However "The Secure Boot Mode Custom" line IS in Black and the text Is unchangeable because the UP & Down Arrows will not stop on the line to be able to make any changes.
the Enter key, or CTRL+S don't help because the Up & Down arrows will not stop on the Black Text

    Thanks

    Paul

I believe secure boot is a BIOS setting. Try restarting the computer, pressing the key that permits you to enter the BIOS my pc uses the DEL key. In there somewhere is the setting that needs to be disabled (turned off).

Hi ckawahara, thanks for your reply.

I have been at this for a few days now with no luck.

The secure boot in my BIOS is In Black Text and cannot be changed.
No way to switch On or Off.

Is there any other way of getting into my Daughters Laptop without going through the BIOS settings please.

        Many thanks

        Paul

I am not familiar with the laptop, nor have I heard of any other method of gaining entry into the BIOS other than during the POST cycle.

My computer build's have always had a section in the motherboard manual addressing the BIOS. Guess there isn't such an section in the pc's manual?

The YouTube has at least one video...search "Packard Bell EasyNote TE"

Is there a user's forum for the Packard Bell EasyNote TE?

search web using term "Packard Bell EasyNote TE secure boot" and you will find some answers --- Here's a quote from one of the responses ( have you searched the relevant PB Easy Note sites or manuals?? )

            According to http://packard-bell-scandic.custhelp...ot-device-menu,
F12 can generally be used to access the boot menu. If it's not enabled, F2 can be used to access the BIOS to enable it.

I have just tried both of these keys (basically just mashed them when the Packard Bell logo appeared), and it worked.

Another thought: you may need to hold down the (Fn) key as well to enable the F-key behaviour (e.g. (Fn)+F2). The Function Key Behavior is also configurable in the setup utility.

Hi Gerry, thanks for the reply.

Does this mean I will be able to access The secure boot to change It.

Had no luck over the last few Days.

              thanks

              Paul.

                Paul,
Gerry was only telling you how to access the BIOS.
The ONLY way for Gerry to answer your question would be for him to have the same or similar Packard Bell PC. The probability of that is probably 1 in a million. And the probability of anyone active on this forum being able to answer your question is maybe 1 in 10,000. You are much more likely to get an answer on a Packard Bell support forum.

Another thought is this: If I were the "designer" of a BIOS with a Secure Boot option for a PC, my design would include the requirement that once the Secure Boot was turned on the password would be required to turn it off. Otherwise it is NOT secure.

Beginning to look like as though I have lost a perfectly working Laptop for nothing.

Much appreciation and thanks for all help and assistance.

He's in the BIOS, guys. The option isn't available to turn on or off.

Paul, at the initial BIOS s screen, are there additional pages/tabs going left-right? It might be set/unset on another tab.

On the Security tab, set a supervisor password.

Write it down, tape it to the bottom of the laptop just in case...

Save your changes but don't exit if you don't have to.

Once you set the supervisor password, you should be able to enable and disable secure boot.

A Question comes up here which is, how did you wind up in the bios looking at a secure boot option - does the laptop boot up this way?

Might also help to review what Secure Boot is, and what it's doing:
Maximize System Security with Secure Boot Technology | Lenovo US
The above link is from Lenovo, but it describes how secure boot works on all systems that support it.

                              Hi eric, thanks again.

I'm not sure whats going anymore.

Windows Is now loading again but only to the Page where It says:-

"Where do you want to Install Windows showing only one Partition showing

                              "Drive 0 Unallocated Space 0.0 MB 0.0MB

At the bottom of the Screen It says

"Windows can't be installed on this drive (show details)

                              Windows setup box showing

"This partition is too small. Make the size 10521 MB or select another partition. As said, only one Partition showing.

Not looking good news I'm afraid.

                              Thanks
