When the forum changed over to the "new improved" forum board, the images didn't come with it.

I know this thread is somewhat old, but what happened to the screens in post 1? A friend of mine is trying to install 3rd party content on a vista machine, has asked me to help him get it to work since apparently he refuses to ask himself here. I'm having trouble following the first post without the screenshots to go with, since I am very visual. can someone help me out a bit?
PS. my friend is convinced the last time he tried to ask for help someone was very rude to him.

Guest repliedI found a way to fix it:
Go to the Advanced Edit for each folder and subfolder. Click Add, and enter USERS, then select Full Control.Last edited by Guest; 04-17-2009, 13:10.

Keeping track is hard.

System Restore back to before you did the security update. (i always create a RP before ANY MS updating!)
Now open TS and unstore everything.
Test MSTS operation and when satisified, run the MS updates again.

Check your train-sim email.

Being a Monon fan, I've been trying to get Rick's excellent route up and running, but the installme.bat is looking for the sim to be in the usual 32bit folder, on a 32 bit OS. Short of manually editing the file, does anyone have a solution?
I've already contacted Rick and he's running a 32 bit OS, therefore, doesn't have this problem. As most seem Vista users seem to be running a 32 bit version, this problem doesn't exist. Thanks in advance, for any solutions.

I tried this, but half way while loading the game, it just stops loading and goes back to my desktop.

I use Home Premium and it works fine, even without the pictures showing, the paths are correct. As far as different versions of Vista are cocerned, I think the core programming is identical, it is the extra bits that vary between versions, with the exception of comparing 32 bit with 64 bit.

(Note that if Microsoft Train Simulator is installed on Vista Service Pack 1 this will be done automatically.)
1 - Right-click on the icon and open “Properties”
2 - Open the “Compatibility” tab and check the box to “Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)” and “Run this program as an administrator”.
3 - Click “OK”.
Change Security for the Microsoft Train Simulator folder
Microsoft Train Simulator will run fine without this change – however if you are installing third-party products downloaded from places like TrainSim.Com then this change will allow those products to be used without trouble from the increased Vista security.
1 - Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\” folder.
Figure 1
2 - Right-click on the “Train Simulator” folder and choose the “Security” tab.
Figure 2
3 - Click on the "Advanced" button
Figure 3
4 - Click on the "Edit" button and click “continue”.
Figure 4
5 - Click on "Edit" and clear the checkbox for “Include inheritable permissions from this object’s parent”. Click on “Copy” in the “Windows Security” box.
Figure 5
6 - This will leave the “Advanced Security Settings for Train Simulator” looking like this. Select “Users” under the “Permission entries” (should be the one saying Read & Execute”)
Figure 6
7 - Click on "Edit" and check the box under “Allow” for "Full Control" and the box for “Apply these permissions to objects and/or containers within this container only”
Figure 7
8 - Then click on ok a few time to close the open windows to finish.
Warnings!
Do NOT disable the User Access Control (UAC) as other places giving “advice” about Vista may tell you. UAC is designed to prompt you when something wants to access the core Windows system. Disabling the UAC is like removing the battery from a smoke detector or a carbon-monoxide detector.
Do NOT apply the changes made to the Microsoft Train Simulator folder to any other folder such C:\Windows or even the entire system hard drive.
I had a go at this but I think the paths may differ between different iterations of Vista, the pictures would help but all I see are red X's, any idea why, I have Java installed so I am at a loss.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
regards

If Vista service pack 1 is installed, then parameter are set automatically.
