CSXT in Eastern Maine

Went out and tracked down the CSXT OT-1 job between Bangor and Old Town. I figured it would be worth it seems the Paper Mill will soon be closing down for extended period of time, according to the company.

A lone GP40 pulls a mixed bag of FBOX and BNSF boxcars through Veazie, ME.


A look at the paper mill from the Old Town rail yard. Looks to be a busy place, but according to the company, they cannot afford to keep it open, and everything will shift to their mill in Rumford.

Interesting to see Guilford power still floating around but a sad day when the traffic stops moving there!

CSXT power has made it's way up as far as Waterville, ME , but nothing east of it so far. I feel like once CSXT actually gets a good hard look at these old Guilford units, a lot of them will be gone. Once the mill closes, there will only be one customer left, and that's Pleasant River Lumber in Enfield, ME. Though that's an awful long way for three-five cars a week.
Hopefully with the track work CSXT plans, it will open up interchange again in Mattawakeag, ME with the Eastern Maine Railway.

The L060 job pulling some empty gons from Mattawakeag, and loaded boxcars from Old Town.



And L072 heading down to get on its train, eventually letting L071 slide in before departing west.



L060 = Former OT-1 local between NMJ and Old Town, Orrington, or Mattawakeag.
L071 = Former WANM, Waterville to Northern Maine Jct.
L072 = Former NMWA, Northern Maine Jct to Waterville.

Those pair in NMJ, haven't been used for a long time, and would probably require a lot of love and care. They are keeping ones that are in better shape I heard. Specifically the double track ones and a a few of the ones similar to these. A friend that works for CSXT told me, that it doesn't snow in Jacksonville, so they think it doesn't snow in northern New England.

L072 grabbed the boxcars from L060, and is shoving back to grab traffic that came off the EMR/MNR via CPKC. Eventually this traffic will be coming out of Mattawakeag instead.



It's kind of funny how both the ex CSXT C40-8's and the ex CR/CSXT GP40's have come back around to CSXT ownership.





I will be curious how long the non dynamic GP40-2W and GP40-2LW fleet will last though, before being quickly sold off. They sure would look neat in the NB&M paint scheme, seems we are prohibited from using dynamic braking.





Looks like Railworks has set up a little office across from the old Bangor & Aroostook main office. I'll be curious if this is temporary or permanent.

Did a little adventure between Brewer and Orrington, following the L060 job.

Crossing the bridge from Bangor into Brewer on the old Bucksport Branch, which is now a simple industrial track.







Ducking under the route 1/15 overpass.



Passing along through Brewer heading towards Orrington, and past the old site of a paper mill.



Getting close to Orrington, where they will switch empties for loads at the Waste Recovery Facility.
