        There was something I saw on either the History channel or Discovery channel not to long ago about exo-suits. They were similar to what you saw in Aliens but only a little larger than the person in it and would allow the person to pick-up/carry more weight and to be able to cover distances without the person using as much energy.

          In 1986 when the movie ALIENS came out, Ripley battled the Alien Queen in an exoskeletal power loader; basically a wearable forklift.

          The concept continues to be in development from the modern construction machines to micro surgery - all using input and feedback to translate a person's movement to the mechanics of the machine - either to move tons of material with precision, or to do delicate surgery through a tiny incision on the patient's brain or spine from a remote location.

          The Alice from Aliens, the combat mech suit, is already being developed by the military for fighting and moving of heavy materials over difficult terrain.

            Robots currently in use, and those still on the draughting tables arent being built with those parameters in mind.
