    Another Democratic scandal?!?

Go figure. Anyway, the Colorado State Fair has been losing money for years, and now it turns out that the Fair's biggest advocate in the Statehouse has been making the most money off of it!

Of course, the first words out of his mouth is "it's not illegal..."

I guess there's "no controlling legal authority."

Or we just don't understand what the meaning of the word 'is' is.

At any rate, since the Dems control the Legislature, nothing's going to happen, although it is kind of interesting that it's the second scandal since the Democrats took over a year and a half ago...

"I don't believe I've done anything I shouldn't have done," Tapia said this afternoon. "The appearance of conflict, that's a very nebulous thing. When we talk about appearances, I don't know where to draw the line."

Then he needs to be looking for another line of work.

I couldnt read his excuses without wondering where my rubber boots and shovel might be.

Sarcasm Alert! I repeat, this is a Sarcasm Alert!

      rdamurphy and Paul1953,

I don't understand your problem. Why else would anybody but a rich man go into politics if it isn't to put yourself in the way of a flood of cash?

When asked by a reporter why he robbed banks, Willie (The Actor) Sutton said, "Because that's where the money is."

Well, he was an interesting guy, but he can't have been very ambitious because it's government where the real money is -- loosely controlled rivers of taxpayer dollars, just waiting to be diverted to the bank accounts of the politician's proxies, i.e. his family and friends -- and his businesses.

...which in civilized quarters is a conflict of interest, and when found out the blighters are oblidged to fall on their swords. Betrayal of the public trust is not to be taken lightly. We all know that they all ( well, a fair number, anyway ) do it, but its a matter of degree.

          Paul1953,

Of course they "should" fall on their swords. However ...

In the USA of the 21st century nobody has feelings of shame or guilt anymore. That's how we have come to get "outed" sexual perverts and proven thieves who do not resign from either public office or publically-held business.

You have only to see the Spring Break videos on the evening news. Out of a feeling of civility debauchery, which will always be with us, used to be done in the dark behind closed doors.

So today it's not Frank Sinatra singing "Strangers in the Night", it's Paris Hilton proud of the underground videos that sometimes are briefly flashed on TV during family dinnertime.

It's the Flavor Fav Celbrity Roast that airs during prime time instead of at 3AM.

It's the Reality TV contest shows that the kiddies are allowed to watch.

It's the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, which is why we don't have the guts to truly fight off Radical Islam.

I don't think that Radical Islam is the greatest threat being faced at this time. They will be considered a threat when a large majority agrees that this is so. At that time, some simple punitive measures will take care of said threat. Radicals will always be with us in various shapes and forms. They can be marginalised at the drop of a hat.

It is the enemies within, that seek to destroy us. There has been a concerted effort since the beginning of the 20th century to destroy the mainstay of western civilization, that being the middle class. Criminal politicians, a corrupt media, unchecked greed, and avarice at the top ,brought us to today, where no-one might trust anyone anymore, and we sit with our guns, behind walls we dont own, waiting for the Final Judgement.

I grew up in the fifties and mid sixties. I thought that was the "Golden Age". A mistake, I wont soon make again. The true Golden Age in North America was the hundred years before WW1, when a dollar was a dollar. Now its a fraction of a penny.

We will, all of us, point our fingers at the ones we see fit to blame, from our own personal perspectives, but in the end, it wasn't anything any of us could control. Unless I miss my guess , there's no one here privy to the halls of power to fully explain the whys and wherefores.

Best you can do know is to stock up on water, toilet paper, cigarettes, and ammo. Because when the shite finally hits the fan, we are all on our own. Good Luck!

Odd, almost an entire century to destroy the middle class without their knowledge! And it still hasn't worked...

Seriously, if Canada is that bad off, can't you immigrate to Ireland or something?

And, of course, that's the most common Republican mantra, as well. The disease seems to be endemic among American politicians.

We're not that bad off yet...

but it has worked. Outsourcing, lowpaying jobs, increasing prices on everything, shackled police, loose courts, parents both working, kids more aware of their "rights" than they are about the 3 Rs ( some, not all ) The standard of living is not the same as thirty years ago. The examples are endless. Even Ron will tell you that the middle classes, are losing ground.Theres that media invention "Tax Freedom Day", I cant remember when it happens in your backyard, but heres its mid-July. Emigrating elsewhere is not the answer. There's no place else to go.

Can't you just call the Mothership and have them beam you up? I mean, they're already reading your thoughts, feeding you information through the internet, and well, I don't know about anal probes, but I have my suspicions! Hmm, that might not have been the best smilie to use...
