Ohhhh, I can NOT wait to see what Jeremy Clarkson (perhaps one of the most right-wing British people I know of) has to say about that.

An example of just how ridiculous things can get under liberal control.

Every adult in Britain should be forced to carry 'carbon ration cards', say MPs

Every adult in the UK would be given an annual carbon dioxide allowance in kgs and a special carbon card.
The scheme would cover road fuel, flights and energy bills.
Every time someone paid for road fuel, flights or energy, their carbon account would be docked.

A litre of petrol would use up 2.3kg in carbon, while every 1.3 miles of airline flight would use another 1kg.
When paying for petrol, the card would need to swiped at the till. It would be a legal offence to buy petrol without using a card.
When paying online, or by direct debit, the carbon account would be debited directly.
Anyone who doesn't use up their credits in a year can sell them to someone who wants more credits. Trading would be done through specialist companies.

Anyone who exceeds their entitlement would have to buy top-up credits from individuals who haven't used up their allowance. The amount paid would be driven by market forces and the deal done through a specialist company.

This is the latest proposal from the Nanny State in its last gasps before total collapse from liberalism.

Of course, people like Al Gore would be exempt.

Read what happened the last time the Democrats had unbridled control of the economy: http://mises.org/story/1507

A recession that started in the 60's and lasted into the 80's, brought to you by LBJ and his Keyensian Economists.

Read the article, it will sound awful familiar...

The amazing thing is that a member of Congress threatened, yes, threatened, an officer of a US Corporation with seizure of his company and assets, and the response of the Leftstream media is not much more than a yawn. I guess they felt like they couldn't openly agree with her, and they seem at least willing to cover it up.

For those who history started yesterday, the former Soviet Union controlled everything with the result that everything was of poor quality and in short supply. Example, the Government ran the bakery and sold bread for 10 cents a loaf. To buy a loaf of bread, you waited in line at the government bakery until you were handed your loaf of bread and had your ration card checked for that dime. Only white bread was sold there - the shelves were always bare. Then, you went to the next line at the butcher shop to get a pound of whatever meat was available. Then, on to the dairy to get a quart of milk.

You lived in a Government built and assigned tiny apartment where the Government controlled the availability of heat, power, and water. You worked at a Government assigned job. Your kids went to a government assigned school where they could be sent to a different school without your consent.

The only thing not tightly regulated was the availability of vodka. That was consumed in large amounts by everyone as an escape of the drudgery of the Communist life.

Explain this to a Liberal Democrat and the answer will be "But, the right people were not in charge."

Yes, the Government can nationalize, that's the word Maxine was looking for, the oil company. Yes, gas can be sold for 10 cents a gallon. No, it will not be freely available at that price. Like the loaf of white bread, you will stand in a ration line with your 5 gallon gas can and ration card to get it filled at the Government controlled gas station.

Its the proverbial "big stick". Only a moron would think this would ever come to pass.

How come those execs arent as worried about it, or arent doing the "chicken little" thing as much as you are?

Some people just dont understand the nature of politics I guess. They translate every political chess move into some literal fact as if its happening now, and run around squawking like an idiot.

Well its quite a switch then, given that Big Oil is part of the corporatocracy that owns just about everything, including the Dems and Reps. Perhaps the person making the threat might want to learn to sleep with one eye open from now on.

Except for him and his strap hangers obviously...

If he is not careful he will succeed in electing John McCain kinda like "AlBore" took everything Clinton gave him and pi$$ed it away and lost......

And my favorite "War Hero" (Just ask him) John Kerry threw away all the help he got from G Soros and HIS strap hangers and succeeded in losing...

Sorry, Frank, but sometimes the truth hurts:

The committee’s Democrats attempted no response. They know that they are largely responsible for the current high price of gasoline, and they want the price to rise even further. Consequently, they have no intention of permitting the development of domestic oil and gas reserves that would both increase this country’s energy independence and give consumers a break from constantly increasing energy costs.
The Democrats are also the ones that blocked development of nuclear energy at every turn, keep increasing the emission standards, are anti-business, and, as Obama has already said:

If you truly want someone to blame for high gas prices, just look in the mirror! Look at all the people around you! Yes, that's right, we are ALL RESPONSIBLE for high gas prices! But admittedly it is far easier to blame your favourite conservative democratic party.......
