Like the rapidly vanishing post on this form, people in Michigan are now cutting back.
Gasoline prices have rapidly fallen as people cut back in their driving. Local repair shops are very busy as people hang on to their older cars. Brand new full size domestic pickup trucks can be had for under $10,000 as sales fall flat for new cars and trucks. The housing market is flooded with unsold homes as people move into smaller houses and kids move back in with their parents.
Major industries, what are left of them, lead the list with Marathon delaying a planned $1.9 billion badly needed refinery expansion. GM and Chrysler, in order to reduce cost, plan to merge and eliminate 25,000 more jobs in Michigan alone.
Locally, Value City will be closing its doors. Art Van has its Bay City store up for sale. Bed Bath and Beyond, is closing soon. The Texan restaurant closed its Bay Road store. Gracies closed its M 13 location. Art Lewis Tours is closing due to high fuel cost, loss of business, and projected increase in taxes. Numerous other local small business are considering closing up in anticipations of being accused of being selfish when it comes to the projected increase in taxes.
Personally, I have everything paid up. I have moved my retirement out of the 401k so I don't lose it to the Government. I will be officially out of the furniture repair business by January. The Saginaw News will be canceled in order to save the $160 yearly subscription for anticipated taxes once their endorsement takes control. With access to cable going up in cost which provides phone TV and Internet access, that may end up being cut as well. That will save some $160 a month alone.
It won't eliminate my internet access completely. I will still have some kind of access available. But, not only will it make the mods sprotecting of "The Second Coming" happy in not having to censor my post, it will make it difficult for anyone to request custom objects or for me to upload any future static objects to this forum library.
What happens three days from now will be that determining factor.
