After what I saw on a Gate 1 bus tour, east of Gillette, WY in late May, I would say most anywhere along the BNSF line east frrom Gillette, especially from there to the junction to the PRB line north-south. In about 40 minutes, while traveling about 30 miles, there were 3 loads and 2 empties seen. Course nobody else on the bus but me knew what we were seeing. Yellowstone was neat but 5 trains in 40 minutes!!

20 years ago, we considered buying a house that backed up to one of the ATSF tracks leading towards the Alliance, TX yard. That didn't happen, and probably for the best because the houses do tend to shake a bit when you're within a couple hundred feet.
Fast forward to now and we are starting to build next to a NS mainline.... we don't feel them because of all the cliff we are on, but I'll definitely be hearing them on the Rathole for the next week as we do another week of tree felling. I'll have to set up a trail cam at the overlook one of these days.
I will say I much prefer watching from 500 feet away, as we can also hear the echoing thru the canyon... up close, the echoes get drowned out.If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!

Nice. On purpose or coincidence?
Don't really feel the shaking unless they get into the power or into dynamics a little too hard and then you'll feel it, but being welded rail, it's pretty smooth, even at 25mph. 40 will be interesting.
