Outside of trains, I also have a semi passion for auto racing. I watch F1 on occasion, with heavy Nascar viewing and even attending. I also tend to sometimes help out and support one of my old friends from high school that races locally in the pro-stock series, mainly at Wiscassett here in Maine.

This past weekend was a big race for them called the Boss Hogg 150, and his car was fast all weekend, and set up the best it has been. Sadly after 40 laps, the car was pretty much totaled due to being involved with some lap traffic cars bouncing off each other and causing a little pile up.

Intro's to the start of the race. Qualified 8th, but after the top 10 drew, he started 2nd. 43 cars showed up, but only 30 of them qualified into the final event.

As I said, after 40 laps of dominating and lapping some slower cars, this ended up being the result. He came out just fine, but was super bummed, as most of us were, but seeing the potential there, it's onto next weekend!

My dad's family was into stock car racing -- I'll still take in a NASCAR race with him if it's on while I'm at his house, but for whatever reason could never get into F1.

Dad and my uncle built and raced dirt track cars into the early 60's, and he also raced at Ransomville Speedway in NY while stationed at a Nike missile base just west of Ransomville.

Both of them later helped my cousin out with his cars into the late 80's.

My other hobby is researching the family tree, over the last 10 years i have traced my tree back to the late 1500's and my wife's tree to the late 1600's, my only troublesome area is my Mums side of the tree as she was born in South Africa, met my dad when he was in the Royal Marines during WW2 and moved here to the UK to marry him in 1950, but sources are scarce for family trees in SA, although i did get a break and found some marriages and deaths on the Mormon geaneology site last year.

What didn't get wrecked got recycled into other race cars or scrapped. Few lasted more than two seasons.

It certainly is.
My mother started researching the family tree way back before PCs and the internet were around. She did it all via letters and a hand-drawn chart, and took us back to the late 1800s.

It wasn't until we had the ability to research on the 'net, and Ancestry came along, that I discovered that we had a convict in our lineage; a female who was transported from Ireland to the penal colony in Tasmania.
She was convicted of what today would be petty-theft and sent down for life.

I'm not a big sports guy, but I do love college football. The wife and I are long-time USC season-tickets holders (great seats midway up on the 35 yd line!). The wife and I have toured the locker room a few times.

I have a little bit of land, but not enough for ride along trains. Maybe I can eventually set up a garden railway set.

I do hike on occasion, but not often. I do enough walking around at work haha.

When I lived in Burlington, Vermont, I did often go to the Lake Monsters baseball games when they played at the home field. That was always fun, especially when they did special nights like Star Wars night, or other silly event.

I haven't traced by any of my family, would like to, but I guess my brother has on his side of the family, and has found a lot of neat stuff. I know a few on my moms side worked for the railroad, would be curious how many on my dads side did as well, and how far back that actually went.
