Not too much anymore --- too crowded, however.....

Years ago, we would head up the California coast to points north ---- hiking and photographing in the Fern Canyon area was always sublime. >>>> https://www.nps.gov/thingstodo/ferncanyon.htm

Explored the coast -- went looking for elk around fern canyon and other critters --- it is quite wild up there --- used Eureka/Arcata area as a base. Further south at Dillon's Beach I used to hang glide off the dunes there. Of course Yosemite was always a favorite ---- every place is too crowded now, loaded with traffic, and reservations a year in advance.

Four Corners area and the Southwest....those trips were amazing, hiking into all the cliff dwellings.

and probably one of the most amazing places I ever experienced Chaco Canyon ... https://www.nps.gov/chcu/index.htm

We pulled in late ( it is a 40 mile trip into the American "Outback" ) checked into the campsite, the light was perfect, we were between storms, so I set up my 4x5 view camera loaded with 4x5 transparency film stock and took the following shot. The image posted here is a copy of a 20x24 dye transfer print of the skyscape I made from 4x5 black&white separation negs. The whole place was very mystical and magicial.

Historically, our favorite destination has been just about any National Park where we can take our camper.

I do like Southwest Colorado.... We never camped at Mesa Verde, instead choosing a small campground at McFee Reservoir about an hour away in Dolores or Ridgeway State Park in Ridgeway. Both were easy jumping off points for a day trips to including Mesa Verde, Durango, Silverton and Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

My all time favorites are pretty much tied at Grand Canyon North Rim, Zion, and Yellowstone/Grand Teton (which although separate are inseparable)...

Three months road tripping around the United States. The south west left an ever lasting impression and one magical overnight stay in the Chisos Mountains of West Texas, in the Big Bend National Park, with a full moon and some Mexican guy singing and playing his guitar - well as good as it gets!
              Ahhhhh the memories.

              Cheers

Big Bend is indeed stunning. It's the only place I've been where there were no aircraft flying overhead and we could experience pure silence....
