• Login / Logout

Login - logout....these basic functions of this and many other web sites seem to cause more confusion than any others. But it's often not as hard as people make it.

First, you need to understand what "login" really means. To login you must have set up an account here so we know who you are and to establish a user name and password. When you visit you login by entering the user name and password you chose and hit a button. That's really all there is to it, should be pretty simple for most people.

But what does that simple act actually do? Well, it causes the server to generate a "cookie" and that cookie is then sent to you and your browser stores it on your computer. A cookie is just a little file with a bit of information in it. Our server may ask your browser for that cookie and as long as you have it, you are logged in. Your browser gives you control over cookies and lets you see what cookies you have stored, delete cookies, prevent certains sites from sending them, etc.

So understanding that can you guess what "logout" really means? When you logout, all that really happens is the TrainSim.Com cookie is deleted on your computer.

But here's a suggestion to make things easier for you: don't logout. Ever. There's really no need. Your being logged in causes no strain on our servers unless you are actively doing something. It causes no strain on your computer either (remember, being logged in means nothing more than that a little cookie file has been stored).

So, I hope this will make things a little simpler for you when using this web site.

Please read the article again, it explains exactly how that can happen. You must be deleting the cookie that contains your login information.

I have noticed in the past that if I am logged in to the site and leave it alone for about 20 min. or so, that the site automatically logs me out for "inactivity".

Make sure that your Internet browser is not set to delete cookies when you close the browser.
