• The Future Of Train Simulation

    Train Simulator

Dovetail Games has released some information on Train
Simulator 2017 (TS2017). The annual iteration of the existing TSX
core engine will include routes from Germany, North America, Great
Britain and France (Hamburg Lubeck, North Jersey Coast Line,LGV
Marseille - Avignon and South Wales Coastal).

Further in the future, plans for Train Sim World have been announced.
This new sim will be base on Unreal Engine 4 (UE4), offering new levels
of realism. The video shows samples of what this will look like.

As part of this, there will shortly be available a TS2017 Pioneers
Edition with two additional routes, Semmeringbahn and Train Sim
World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta. This will allow users an early look
at what Train Sim World has to offer.

Route Building is not addressed. Will we be able to build our own routes.????

The video is impressive of course, but the 'future of rail simulation'? For me it's not so defining. Tying themselves to Steam accounts - which I cannot access - means their work is not part of my future rail simulation. That's the trouble with a lot of software creators these days. So quick to adopt new or particular technologies means that many possible customers are fenced off. There are going to be alternatives, sooner or later, which is the direction I'll be going, by necessity. Sorry Dovetail. Love the video.

Maybe it is. Maybe it's just marketing b.s. Maybe its just one more choice among several.

      Too soon to tell.
