• New Siskiyou Beta Release

    Siskiyou Route

    Greetings!

That's right. There's a new release on the web site. It's been a little over a year since the last release. I would have made one sooner but it always seemed as if I no sooner finished something that I'd find something else that seemed needing done before releasing a new version. One thing just kept leading to another.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!... Almost everything with the Route has changed. Because of that I am not releasing an update. With all of the changes that have been made an update would very likely have as many files as the full release.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE NEW ROUTE... Please locate your existing Siskiyou route folder and move it to some place where you can save it as an archive. After you install the new version you can then copy over any new files that you've created such as new activities.

AGAIN, NEARLY EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED... You'll need to just about start over from scratch. Almost everything that one can download from the web site has changed. Maps, utilities, documentation, and so on. Even many of the wagons and consists have changed. You shouldn't need to do anything about deleting any of the engines, wagons, or consists that you have. If any of these have changed the new ones will simply overwrite the old ones.

It's likely that there's also new things on the site that you haven't seen or downloaded. There's a lot of new consists as well as new engines and wagons. PLEASE be sure to download ALL wagons and consists. If you do you won't end up downloading the same files over and over again as you get new activities and consists.

If you're not sure about anything please drop me an email and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

As is always the case there's always the chance that I've missed something that should have been caught. Again, let me know if something like this happens and I'll try and get things fixed in short order.

The activities for the Route have been designed to be used in OpenRails and will likely not work properly if you are still using Microsoft Train Simulator. OpenRails has progressed to where it's much more powerful and stable than MSTS. By all means, if you have not made the switch over to OpenRails now is the time to do so.

Since I'm mentioning activities I'll mention that the Route includes some new activities that take your over the Siskiyou Mountains while others take you both north and south through the newly forested Cow Creek Canyon. Another will take you over a new section of the Route that I refer to as Buck Rock Loop. It's up near the summit. It was in the original survey but was never completed. I thought you might like to see what it would have been like had they finished it. There's another activity up at Glendale Nickel Mine and so on.

You'll also find an activity on the Activities page of the site that has you moving cars about in White City, Oregon. The City has a complex network of tracks and so the activity even comes with its own maps.

Take your time looking about on all of the pages on the web site. You may find things that you wouldn't want to be without. With everything that has changed over the past year I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention some of the things. I hope that you'll enjoy the progress I've made.

    Fingers crossed...

    Dale

Hello, one question, how many MB's weigh the route?, because I want to download it and I would like to know how much is missing so that it ends.
And another thing, I congratulate you, so I could see, you're doing a great job.
