• New NAVS Releases - Foobie Box Cars

    NAVS

New from North American V-Scale are two "Foobie" 50-foot boxcar packages. Intended to be flexible "kits" for repainters to create large fleets of cars, these cars also come with a wide variety of roadnames to reflect the rainbow consists of the Incentive Per Diem era of the late 1970s. The first set, the 70-ton Plate B 50' Boxcar kit, includes:

    • 8 cars from 4 roads (MNS, MILW, BN & CNW)
    • 3 levels of lading (empty, gross out, & cube out)
    • Designed to reasonably represent a wide variety of makes & models
    • 64 models allow for greatly-enhanced flexibility for repainters (paint kit @ TrainSim.Com - look for "NAVS_IPD_PLATEB_SDK.zip")
    • These cars use the public domain NAVS core and freight car sounds*

The second set, the 70-ton Plate C 50' Boxcar kit, includes:

    • 8 cars from 4 roads (CV, GBW, WCCL, & BAR)
    • 3 levels of lading (empty, gross out, & cube out)
    • Designed to reasonably represent a wide variety of makes & models
    • 64 models allow for greatly-enhanced flexibility for repainters (paint kit @ TrainSim.Com - look for "NAVS_IPD_PLATEC_SDK.zip")
    • These cars use the public domain NAVS core and freight car sounds*

For users who are unfamiliar with AAR loading gauges, 50-foot Plate B cars are roughly 5,000 cubic feet in capacity, and about the height of an average locomotive, whereas Plate C cars are roughly 5,300 cubic feet, and a bit taller. In the late 1970s, a wide variety of manufacturers built both Plate B and Plate C 50-foot cars for buyers desperate to cash in on lucrative per diem rates. These "foobie" cars are designed with a lower level of 3D detail, so that a wide variety of cars from different manufacturers can be reasonably represented with a single set of models. Accordingly, they are priced a little lower than previous NAVS releases.

    *Available at TrainSim.Com - NAVSCF10.zip and NAVSFR10.zip.
