Should try free GIMP.. They do BMP and other formats, can be changed to DDS conversions... Works good for me as well.. Just throwing in an idea..

It probably is intentional, as in the olden days of MSTS, parts of locomotives were classified as steam engines to get steam effects.

75% of the older MSTS routes you will see in the File Library is strictly MSTS, Most WILL NOT work well with Open Rails. So once an error pops up...
