    Default Night Time rail photo's of the 40's and 50's ?

    Yeah .. I tried to make the subject banner interesting! But I really want to know the name of the famous american railroad photographer who took all those stunning nighttime shots of early US steam in the 40's and 50's ...
    All I can remember is that he used like 50 to 100 flash units , all fired on timers , to produce stunning night shots of trains under full steam.. in black and white .
    He must be on the web? Hope someone can help :-) jv

    O. Winston Link I do not know of a website for him. I do know that in his later years and after he died there was a huge fight over the rights to his pictures and negitives. I do not know if it was ever settled.

    Here a link to his books available on Amazon

    jvizoso;

    You may be thinking of O. Winston Link. His most highly regarded works are those photographic sojourns into Norfolk and Western territory in the late '50s, just before the end of steam on that road. Brilliant, bittersweet essays on the end of an era.

    I just finished doing some research regarding O. Winston Link so I thought I would point you in a few directions.

    This site gives a background on the man himself.

    Thanks guys... I remember I saw a documentary on him some years ago, they even had some of his 'human' models in the programme talking about the day the photos were taken... I remember the one with the train coming right down the middle of the street at dusk !!
    Once seen never forgotten , his photos are brilliant.. thanks , much appreciated jv.
