    Default DirectX 9.0b

    Hello everyone!

Do anyone know if DirectX can be downloaded and installed without having to be connected to the internet? I think my DirectX that came with MSTS is not enough for TPII and Cajon Pass Route from 3DTS. When im in the middle of an activity I get the boot back to desk top. Unless im knocking on the wrong door, meaning DirectX is not my problem... All ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Gerard,

MSTS only requires DX7, so the version is not your problem.

    Cheers

Derek any idea what it can be? Its a bad feeling when your into an activity and all of a sudden you get the jerky screen thing happening then you get the desktop then you get the send/dont send dialog box... i belive everything was ok but i added the TPII 1.62 update from 3DTS thats when my prob started to kick in. When i looked at the "Details" in the send/ dont send dialog box I see "kernel32.dll" and a couple of ".dll" files... I have no ideal what it can be. the specs on my system are:

    -Dimension 8300 Series,Intel Pentium 4 Processor at 3.0GHz w/HT Technology and 1MB cache
    -512MB DDR SDRAM at 400MHz
-128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Graphics Card with TV-Out DVI
-160GB Performance Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    -SoundBlaster Live! with 5.1 Support

You think anything can be wrong with this set up?

    Open for suggestions!?

    Thanks

    -Gerald

directx 9.0c actually made my machine's graphics card slower and screwed up the startup and shutdown sounds in windows xp... learned that the hard way (had to reformat, reset bois) i'm gonna wait for direct x 9.1 or 10. some direct x versions work with some machines and not others ........ i usually dont go with beta directx versions, as they are not totally bug free......i have not had problems with non -beta versions, like 9.0, but 9.0n and 9.0c have caused some problems on machines i have had in the past, including this one

    MSTS requires DirectX 7, so I don't think it's a version problem.
However, installing the latest version shouldn't hurt.
There is the version which is installed without the need of a network connection (you need it, of course, to download it, but not at installation time; it's useful if you need to upgrade more than one computer or should you need to reinstall your system).

    Other ideas:
    - look for the latest ATI driver version on ATI site; your graphic card is relatively new and the latest driver may solve some open issues
    - go to Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Games -> Train Simulator -> Train Simulator Troubleshooter, click on Troubleshooting and see if some of the settings may apply to your problem

Hope this helps you in restoring proper MSTS behaviour! :)

Ummm, isn't the kernel32.dll like the central DLL of the computer?! Sounds almost like a viral issue....

On Dell's customer support video forums they are recommending that users update to the latest ATI drivers and DirectX 9c. This shouldn't hurt your system at all with what you have.

The latest official drivers from ATI can be found at ATI.com. There is a link in the news section on the home page. May help, can't hurt.
