Default Looking to sim the abandoned railroads in my county!

I am new to simulation. I am a cartographer and GIS specialist and I have been working on a mapping project. Do any of the "off-the-shelf" simulation programs allow you to put your own map data in to their program? I would like to simulate the old abandoned railroads that once ran through my county. Check out what I am doing.

Read through the Route Design forum for some initial guidance. You should be able to do what you're planning using the Route Editor that's in MSTS, but it's not a trivial exercise. It does allow you to import DEM data and route markers, and from there you should be off and running.

Should be do-able, Tim. I've done it on several ocassions. Hit the link below:

    http://www.topozone.com

There you will find topographical maps, many of them are trans-era and include older data along with new. Often times you will see tracks shown as being in place that are long gone, or if the tracks are not illustrated, you may see a dashed line and annotated as an "Abandoned RR Grade" or something similiar.

Only the most obscure and/or long gone railroads are not evidenced.

Also, look for my program MarkerMaker.
It will allow you to use Topozone to make Marker files.

You can disregard my last post.....
It seems that the coordinates my program was using from Topozone
    will no longer work.
It seems Topozone has stopped putting the coordinates in the
    status bar.
If some kind soul would be kind enough to remove it from the
file area as it is now useless, it would be appreciated.
