So many memories of the first two games on PS1 (and the mod chip/colour mod to one’s console it required)

I wish they’d put that browser version on the actual App Store for people to be able to play whenever. I found a very similar iOS game called Train Drive ATS which is the closest equivalent, though the production values aren’t as good as Densha de GO!

Thank you for this information. Most interesting, particularly as I have a PS4 gathering dust!

Any idea as to how or if these titles will be accessible to those of us outside Japan?

Bruce they should be playable on any region PS4 as they are region free.
You can pre order via Amazon jp but they will not ship them out of Japan on release, but I expect that will change after release.
I see that they can be pre ordered on playasia but they are not cheap.

In my DDG story, I had a bootleg Action Replay called a "Game Enhancer" that could plug into the expansion port on the back of certain PS1 models (this was removed with the final hardware revision, the 9xxx, precisely because of what these things let you do) and then you could swap trick your way to import games. However, this didn't do anything about NTSC games on a PAL TV, even though I had a multisystem TV. I found instructions online for a simple colour mod that involved a little bit of soldering and, I think, one wire.

I found a gentleman online who did modchips out of his home in scenic Milton Keynes, and my parents duly gave me a ride up to this guy's estate. On the way, I called to confirm the appointment and his missus misheard "Playstation" as "police station". I saw cause for her concern when we got there and he opened up a huge trunk full of, shall we say, unofficial games. My parents stayed outside in their car and watched the local kids throw kitchen knives at a brick wall.

The guy was very nice and agreed to give the colour mod a go for free along with installing my modchip, since it would let him expand his services. It worked like a charm! Now, finally, red would show up properly along with blue and green* in my import games, and I didn't need the "Game Enhancer" to run them, they'd work all by themselves.

*an interesting simulation of being a train driver while colourblind, and why they don't allow that!
