Default Method to limit frame rates?

    Hi everyone,
About a month ago I noticed that my frame rates would "lock" at 32 frames per second at various times! This really smoothed out my sim! All the stuttering for the most part would completely disappear and my f/p/s would never rise above 32!(in heavy scenery it would drop below 32!)
I know in FS2004 there is the option to limit your frame rates which I found greatly helped the stuttering and jerkiness!
I also know that MSTS has a 60 f/p/s limit!
    My question is this;
Where is this limit of 60 f/p/s set? What file? Is it "hardcoded" where it can,t be changed?
I would love to set a new limit of around 28 or so for it would really smooth out the sim!
The first time I noticed this is after I replaced my camera config. file!
Thank You! Any help would be appreciated!
    RickB

    P.S. I have X/p with 3.06 GIG /512 memory & ATI 9700 ! Also Hyperthreading!

I believe the 60-FPS limit is hard coded into the EXE, with no option to lock it.

Turn HT off, it has a negative affect on MSTS.

HT really has a negative impact on MSTS ???

Any idea where you turn it off from ???

I'll try just about anything once... :)

HT is normally enabled/disabled through the bios. you can "fake" turning it off for mSTS by starting the sim, minimizing, going to processes in the task manager, right click train.exe and click set affinity. then make sure only cpu 0 is selected.
I have not noticed any gain by disabling HT through bios or affinity.

Thank you Mark & Derek for taking the time to help me out!

Derek, I turned off Hyperthreading thru the task manager and also bumped up the game priority to high!
IMHO I noticed a much smoother runing sim! My F/R,s before would jump all over the place but are now much more stable! Nice tip!

Mark, its to bad there isn,t a way to cap F/R,s!
    Again,Thank You!

P.S. "VERY IMPORTANT"- From what I have read; DO "NOT" SET YOUR PRIORITY TO "REALTIME" WITHIN TASK MANAGER!!!!( I understand this can REALLY MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER!)

    Hi Michael,
I wish I could help you on that one but my windows 98 knowledge is very limited! I,m sure someone can answer your question and get you on the right track (pun intended)!

    Anybody?

One thing I do know though is that if you get the chance by all means "upgrade" to XP! You won,t be sorry!
    Take care,

I have had ATI and nVidia video cards, and with both of them I could fix the Frame Rate in any particular resolution. Have a look around your GFX card setup, see what you can find!

Unlike NT, w2k and XP, 98 can only use one processor so HT should be turned off anyway.

    Cheers
