Default New PC Hitting Wall - Loading bumps

    Hi folks.
I'm having a PC issue that is most pronounced in MSTS so I'm hoping the wise old souls around here might be able to help me out.

Whenever the PC accesses the HD my graphics freeze for the duration that the HD light is on and sometimes there is a noise burst through my soundcard.
Fortunately it doesn't occur with all applications but it is very pronounced in MSTS and Half-Life 2.
What concerns me is that my much inferior older PC didn't have this issue.
This new machine is stunning in all other aspects.

I appreciate any help you can offer.

    Hi Jeff !

The fact that Half-Life 2 is also affected would suggest that the problem is more likely caused by by the system, WIN-XP Home SR2 I presume or hardware, graphics card and drivers ?

Try running Dxdiag and have it test graphics and sound. It should indicate that DirectX-9.0c is installed !

It is also a good idea not to have any programmes running in the back-ground when starting MSTS, Internet, Firewalls, Virus Checkers, other scanners, etc, not required !

Half-Life 2 can be like that for some users. Its a bug that Valve never really fixed for everyone. It was fixed on my machine, however it still happens to a lot of people. Make sure you've let Steam update HL2 completely though to make sure you've got the updates applied.

Concerning MSTS, this happens to everyone. It can't be fixed, its just an old engine. It can be remedied to happen less and for less time, but its still going to happen on the best of systems.

"Concerning MSTS, this happens to everyone."

Nope. Not a problem on my machine. No audio popping or otherwise. I'm still on a 1.3 Ghz Celeron. The original poster indicated MSTS didn't do this on his old machine either.

It's not MSTS, there is a conflict somewhere in his system.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

It's a little disconcerting to hear suggestions that this might be a system issue since this machine is brand new and was "custom configured" for gaming.
Sadly, when I went back to the shop to ask about this issue the only response I got was "Well I have no idea why that would happen".

But seeing that it doesn't happen with all apps I have to wonder if it is system specific or just a combination of app vs system.
For example Far Cry runs flawlessly with all settings at maximum.

    Any other comments are appreciated.

I hope you didn't pay any extra for that service, as its a load of crap.

Would you be able to get a copy of your IRQ settings? I think the problem is there somewhere.
    Cheers
