    Default Dynamic brake sound in electric loc cab sms

    I am working on new electric loc sms files and I am using a cab with a combined control throttle . The dynamic brake is operated very efficiantly to down hill: so far, so good...

    However, I have a big problem about the sound: impossible to configure a stream to hear this dynamic brake sound.
    In searching around, I discover this stream in the Dash9 file:

    The dash sms file uses "variable3" as variable trigger but the Dash is a diesel loc...
    If I try to applie this stream in my electric loc file (with a corresponding wav file) there is no sound to hear...

    Furthermore, the traction mode streams are working good...

    My question:

    Is the "variable3" used for a electric loc?

    And if not, where is the best way to program a correct stream including variable triggers depending of motor current or Throttle position
    I would like to use in this stream the frequency curve speed controlled and volume curve speed controlled

    Any idea or suggestion would be very appreciated...

    Anbd by the way, there is a relationship between the wiper and the dynamic brakes on electric trains. The F5 might not display the dynamic brake properly.

    The trick I used in the sounds I developed for the London Underground train was to use the motor sound for the dynamics, with the frequency controlled by speed and the volume controlled by NEGATIVE current.

    I couldn't get a satisfactory sound effect using Variable3 (dynamics) on its own - I just used it to shut off the sound below a certain dynamic level (10%). Using Variable2 (current) and using negative values (dynamics generate negative current) for the volume did the trick.

    Thanks for the trick and the Variable3.
    In my eng file, I am using a combined control like this:

    Combined_Control( 0 1 0.5 0.5 throttle dynamic )

    and only the Variable3 is effective for the volume.
    Infortunatly, negative values of Variable2 are inoperant.
    What type of throttle and dynamic brakes do you use in your Underground train?
    Nevertheless, I continue my investigations.

    I use a combined controler for throttle and train brakes, but also blend the train brakes with the dynamics. Are you sure there's no negative current? Try adding a digital ammeter to the cab cvf to check. Don't forget to give it a range of (say) -1000 to +1000. Once (if) you can determine if -ve current is present, the ammeter can tell you the value ranges. All of which shouldn't matter, as the variable in the sms file is a percentage (AFAIK). I only used a range of 0 to -100 (of Variable2) for the dynamics volume.

    EDIT - another way is to examine the eng file and check for the dynamics max current value!

    It's really strange, as I just finished the controls for the BV2400, which uses exactly the CC mix you have (combined throttle/dynamics), and the dynamic sound system method I posted works with that just fine.

    So my gut says to check the train amps values and adjust the sms values if needed.

    I hope you are still reading this forum.
    To develop sound for an EMU I tried to do what you did, and in effect what you found out seems the only way to have it working. Many thanks! Only one thing does not work: the sound level of the motors when dynamic brake is activated is only at maximum level, that is it seems that even if I used a proportional rule between Variable2 and volume in the volume curve, it has no effect. Any hint about where to fiddle?
    Did you experience in combining air brake and dynamic brake in a single lever?
