    Thank you Cal, Jonatan and Austin for your kind feedback.

    It's great to see you back Cal, and yes we've been busy. The Screen Shot archive is basically a test for some software we have in development. I'm putting it together in pieces as time allows.

    Although the archive allows you to view the daily photos using thumbnails, it can't bring in the text from the forums associated with each photo, that is being worked on too. For that (and many other reasons) the forum is still the best place for posting and communicating with others when it comes to the images.

    Your right about the forums, they don't keep photos around forever. Things have to roll off at some point, especially when it comes to message bases.

    Some of the photos appear lost due to a major upgrade to dcforums when it moved to php & mysql on a new machine. The path to the photos had to change. Older urls to the photos had /dcforums/ in them which changed to /ts/ in the new urls. In many cases if you see the url popup with /dcforums/ in it, you can modify that to /ts/ and your photo could still be there. Rick moved as many photos as possible to the new directory but we know the forum software still contained links that could not be converted.

    Thank you again Cal for the encourgement, and the wonderful photos.

    Is there a way to temporarily turn off the time limit on editing a post so that we can go back and edit the links?

    I'm not sure how that is set Cal. In fact it was just yesterday I learned from an email from Otto that it was a 60 minute timer period in which you have to edit.

    I don't have adminstration rights to the DCForum so can't look at it, but Nels and Rick both do. They are both extremely good at this too. I will talk with Rick today and ask him what can be done.

    Your idea is great. It might help us track any possible edit problem down faster.

    Thanks
    Dan

    I would think the timer could be turned off permanently and allow only the poster (author) of the message to edit it. I belong to a photography forum and that is the setup there. It works very well. I have been able to edit posts made several months previous.

    You beat me to it Cal, that's what I hope we have now. I talked with Rick this morning and he gave me admin rights. He pointed me to a user option for the edits but it only supplied a box to type in a time in minutes.

    Considering the box was 30 characters long I didn't really want to test what datatypes DCForum software uses to hold that number so I checked the online admin guide and it said to put a 0 in for unlimited time.

    Zero it is ... should be unlimited amount of time now. Give it a try my friend!

    Hey this should let people fix some of their missing graphics in older posts as well :)

    I just tried it and it says that the time for editing has expired.

    LOL Ok, looks like I better find out why it doesn't work the way the admin guide said it should. Meanwhile I set the value at 65000 which gives us over a month and hopefully the DCForum people use at least an unsigned integer to hold that value.

    I'm also going to set up a second non-admin account so I can try this stuff while I work on it. Thanks for you help Cal.

    Maybe a value of -1 might work.

    PS: How do I use a url address in this forum, but use a title such as "click here"? I tried the normal url=website address HERE url , with the square brackets.

    Hey Cal,

    I checked out the support forums for [Link Expired] and found the thread (that was left july 2004) for the ZERO doesn't work problem. lol I left a message also but it doesn't look good. Here is the link if you care to see what they are talking about, but I don't blame if you don't :)

    [Link Expired]

    So I took a look at the source code myself. Found the routine called edit_allowed() where it setups the edit_time_out. Because it does one of these

    $edit_time_out = time() - SETUP_EDIT_TIME_OUT*60;

    then throughout the code they do the check that appends to the SQL query like this ..

    if (SETUP_EDIT_TIME_OUT > 0)
    $q .= " AND UNIX_TIMESTAMP(date) > $edit_time_out ";

    You can see the -1 won't help. It would actually ADD one minute to the edit_time_out rather than push it back in time. (although that was a great idea) I'm going to check around the code a bit and get familiar with exactly what they are doing and see if I can find the bug for them. If not I'll talk to Rick next week and maybe just comment out those lines that check for it so we can have unlimited edits till the get a fix :)
