Cumberland Maryland can be a busy place with it's strategic location to the north of the West Virginia Coal fields and to the east of the Narrows where traffic funnels through on it's way over Sandpatch and to the west.

Every day there are many trains passing through while some also begin and end their runs here heading in both directions.

    All the trains heading west
must go through the bottleneck known as the Narrows.
A place of beauty and grandeur.

Why even some strange beasts have been know to roam there.

And no matter what the season, it isn't unusual to see an occasional visitor from just about every point on the compass.

Cumberland isn't nearly as busy as it once was. The large Cumberland shops only handle running repairs and minor reaplacement of wheels, etc. Plus the Mountain sub is mostly single track.-Jeffrey
