Hey Bo, thanks for these glimpses from your neck o' the woods. It's very interesting to see railroads from other lands (I'm from the Pacifc Northwest in N America), and all the surrounding stuff too. Like the kookaburra shot.

    Killer photos mate!! :D

My "Other-half" lives down that part of the world. She often tells me she can hear some trains rumble through in the early hours of the morning. Where I live it takes 40 minutes to get close to a freight line. I live right next to the Currinbine line though!! x(

Those 5 trains...what were on them?? Just interested! ;) Catch any S or Q class? Whenever I go down railfanning the Kwinana/South Lakes area...I ALWAYS(!!!!!) see either L 268 or Q301. I have about 30 photos on 35 mm (film).

BTW: Nice video!! That actually is ALF-25, not a NJ ;) NJ's are on Narrow Gauge (and all down at Albany now) where as ALF-25 and 42209 are over here helping out on Grain Trains.

Have you seen this site? Adam Brooks and I are building it...

    www.trainweb.org/aussiepix

Some shots of not only Victorian/NSW trains...but some from Midland. :)

EDIT: Are those dudes in orange doing track work or just general maintainence?? Is it Cockburn Junction? (with that line branching off to Fremantle?). I was down at Fremantle on Monday and they are making a giant double track-dual gauge loop line from Fremantle station to Victoria Quay. After all, Dr Gallop wants to get 30% of all containers to arrive and depart on rail by 2008. Currently its 3% ;)

    Thanks mate! :D

Good to see no "Bumble-P's" They are SHOCKING!! (P's in Yellow/Black) That would actually be 2505 or 2506 (2506 has just been released)

L255 is around in your part of the world. Geeeeee...that poor thing needs a good coat of ARG Orange with 2 black stripes!!!!! :O It will become 3109. ;)

I'll have some EMU photos tonight if your interested. Going to the Australia V South Africa rugby match at Subiaco Oval. :D

    Killer photos and movies mate!!!!

Your brave hanging around Kwiana (Banana) Yards with a Camera though!!!!!! I once got a warning from a "rent-a-cop" to watch my actions. Its a shame...I used to spend ages around the Banana Yards watching DB's and S classes doing thier stuff.

Its about time I re-direct my railfanning from Midland down south in towards Kwinana way. Any idea what the busiest days are??

Ive only been to kwinana twice, And both times i just idle my way down to the maintainence sheds, do a U turn and photograph anything on the way back up :) Never had to leave the car.

Most of the traffic through the line near my place runs mostly at night and early morning, Not too many in the day or evening. It would be great to get a timetable or an online scanner setup like a few american rail lines have.

Sometimes they flow fairly thick, Several an Hour.. I just took a chance and went for a drive To the Southern End of Karel Ave.. Hope RD Xing (Jandakot airport Road) and found "Linesman Lane" which runs along the length of the line almost right upto the Fwy overpass ! So i think i'll be there more often.

My Brothers building a house in Bertram so i went down there to get some shots and not far from there is Millard Road 'Baldivis\Wellard' (the S Class Photo) Which seems to be a another good spot to catch trains Leaving kwinana Yards. From there i took many little back roads looking for spots (Did you know Mundijong RD is 110kph and the Freeway is only 100 ?? lol) and basically ended up down at the several crossings found down in Mundijong (Bishop and Soldiers Roads)

Heres a Q for you or any West Aussie who knows... Do you know why the Jarrahdale line was closed from Mundijong ?? I was planning to drive up there too to film some nice 'grade climbing' sounds and found the crossing had been sealed over :\

Will hopefully get out for more soon :)

Nice!!! :D When I used to work down Kardinya way...I used to leave for work 30 minutes early...head down to the Jandikot Airport road Xing. I only saw 1 Q Class through here. x(

Kwinana is good fun to watch trains....do you know that Xing just south of the yard? Wait there for about 2 hours...I got about 7 trains through last time I was there.

(Did you know Mundijong RD is 110kph and the Freeway is only 100 ?? lol)

Hehehehe...to some people...the freeway has no speed limit!! :O I caught some dude doing AT LEAST 150kph on Wednesday up here in the Northern suburbs.

LMAO!! I think we are the only West Aussies in the entire forum!! ;) I havent been as far south as Mundajoing since 1998, when my Dad and I went to photograph those "Brand new S Class things" :P I did hear that they closed the line due to no traffic (the mine has run out)...but Alcoa has found a new deposit on the eastern side of Jarrahdale, which ARG plan to re-open in 2005.

If it wasnt so wet...I would head out to Midland and get some more shots. Perhaps even some Avon Valley action! :7
