CD drive problem

Hello all.
I'm having a bit of trouble. Over the last couple weeks, I've notice my computer won't read CD's or disk's I've backed stuff up on. I have a HP 6715B laptop.

Please see the attached photo for the error message I get after double clicking on the "D" disk icon. I wait about a minute, and I get the error.

If it plays music disks and games etc ok then it sounds like your backup disks are corrupt, in which case you may have to use some recovery software to get the data off them. If it's all disks try updating/reinstalling the drives drivers. You could try a another drive as well.
