Default Boot floppy required to format drive

    Hi

I have a 7 year old PC that I need to format, I just uncovered it while moving house and want to use it as a spare.

Can someone please send me a link to a site that has software that will let me create a floppy (a) disk that I can use to format the drive on the old PC.

    thanks

    Cool

    Hi Daniel
Try bootdisk.com, they have what you need.

I believe the files you're looking for to put on a floppy are OS dependent.
    You need 'fdisk'.

Have you tried running it to see if it asks for a formatted floppy disk to copy files to?

This link would probably be your best bet to learn how to use fdisk.

If you're just wanting to format the drive and it already has stuff on it, you don't need to use FDISK. Just boot off of the floppy disk and use the format utility on the disk.

First, don't run FDISK on your current machine you're reading this on.

What you need to do is go to bootdisk.com and get a copy of a Windows 98 SE boot disk. You'll download a program that will create the boot disk with whatever floppy disk you have on the drive, or, it will merely extract the files (like a Zip file but it's an .exe) onto your floppy disk.

Once finished, that disk should be able to boot your other computer and allow you to format its hard drive with the DOS Format utility. So, slap the disk into the other computer's floppy drive and boot it up. If given a menu of choices, pick the first one. You should eventually arrive at a prompt like A:\> or D:\>

If you get that far and still need more help, just post back.
