    Question Tunnel Track question

I have reached Mud Tunnel at mile CA-294.3 on the C&O and I have a
question concerning this tunnel and some others on the route.

Is there a good double track tunnel in the track items that does not
produce a divided double track. Tunnel01 produces a very nice tunnel
but when double track is laid with it, the result is a divided tunnel. This
is not a serious problem but Mud, Lake, WhiteSulphur, and 2nd Creek are
double track bores. A couple of the other tunnels are two seperate bores
    being bored at different times.

Do you have a picture of the tunnel portal? I can build one in about ten minutes, if I have a good front on picture. It'll be up to you to get permission to use the photo...

    Smile Tunnel Portal

I don't have a picture, but the portals on the Allegheny line are all
plane concrete, very plain, no decorations at all except the date of
    fabrication.

The portal is'nt the problem though. I am using the UStracks, and
under that set of rules, it does not appear that there are any
double track tunnels. As the first tunnel is straight, I just laid
double track up to the point where the portal should be and then
assumed the position of a buzzard over the ridge and, using
tunnel01 (name is close) track, made a double track section through
the ridge. However this is two pieces of single track tunnel so there
is a wall in the middle. I'll probably have to make a portal or ask you
to make one that has a thin section in the middle to hide this dividing
wall. I.e. the plain portal would be concrete and would appear as two
portals very close together. Tracks are on default centers for mainline
(SanBer to Bars). If you wish to make a portal, it would help as the same
portal would be usable at 5 or 6 tunnels on the line.

I have 3dCanvas as well as TSM, the latter of which I pretty well
mastered. I have 30 years experience with professional CAD but I find
    3dC to be rather perplexing.

OH. I missed that RS/RW thing again...

I get confused by 3d as well, I just two two sides at a time. Make the XY adjustments, then do the YZ adjustments. Seems to work for me. I always use the keyboard to create primatives, never have gotten the hang of using the mouse to do it. I probably should try someday...

    Wink Don't use tunnel track

At the entrance switch to something like the Newcastle concrete dark texure.

Click the selection tool, drag along one of the tracks to select it. While it's selected click the offset tool, then in the lower left flyout adjust the width so one of the offset ribbons is sitting between the tracks.

In the miscellaneous category select the "Tunnel Trackless", then click on the cube (or cubes if it isn't all one ribbon) to offset loft the tunnel.

Whatever you offset is at the height of the rails, so grab the invisible loft "roadway" to select it, lower it into the ground.

Add tunnel double track and the hole decal.

Dunno if that one works for the high cube double stacks, I got a height restriction on my route so I never checked.

The "hole decal?" Did they get that from Wile E. Coyote?

    Hi Jim !

Just one minor problem using this method, the trackbeds inside the tunnel are not dark enough.

Have a look at the tunnel Thomas has used at Harpers Ferry in his CSX-Mainline route.

It's the one with a wall in the middle, somebody could take out in it's GeoPcDx file ? Don't look at me, but might have a go !

    Default CSX Mainline

Is this route, freeware, shareware, or what? Is it in the library yet, as I have seen
references to it, but not the actual route.

The CSX-Mainline Beta-11 is Freeware but requires one of Rich Garbers routes to get it's scenery the CSX-11 uses.

    Back to your tunnels.

Apart from this Sieg_Hage_DoubleTrackTun entrance, showing floating in the air procedural grass growing on the now invisible mountain slope:

these are the available tunnel tracks in 2-tracks mode, their center tunnel walls not being removable:

This one is looking better, not having the double-center walls crowding the tracks next to them. If double-stacks inside them are too high the user would not notice that :

Only one problem, what to do about this, the Decal did not hide:

Using Jim's method is more elaborate, but would not create the above and these tracks below can be used inside scenery objects tunnels.
