    Default First time post, with questions about terrain and routes

    Hello everyone. My first post here, i'm also signed up with the digirails forums, but they are not very active.

    My questions are first, What is the most easiest way that I can import terrain into Rail Simulator? I did download the demo of Re-dem, I don't even understand it, and I was reading that you can use google earth or get land height information from terraserverusa.com but I have no idea how to import or basically do anything like that with the terrain, so any help is greatly appreciated as i'm trying to replicate the train route here in RL.

    Second, i've been reading about assets, and route markers, and all kinds of different stuff. I thought to make a route all you had to do was lay down track, place down engine and cars, place down a driver and go?

    Heh, over there at digirails, I've tried to contact at least 2 people about this now through the e-mail system through the website, but no one ever responds back. It seems more active here tho

    Thanks

    You'll get a lot of good info here, but there's also another good forum at the following link:

    That's the fulll tutorial, for the basics;

    Download and extract the .hgt files for the area you're doing, make a new folder in Railworks named \DEM, make a new subfolder in Railworks\DEM named \SRTM, then copy all the .hgt files into the \railworks\DEM\SRTM folder. Get RS_Tools or RW_Tools;

    To create a route template. Once you extract a route using the latitude longitude you want, in the world editor you merely hit the T key and a nine tile area pops up if the .hgt files needed for that location are in place. There are assorted other ways of doing it;

    But for small routes, just using the .hgt files and T key is the simplest.
