MRL's 4th Subdivision Sandpoint to St. Regis

Here's a compilation of some of my shots I've taken along the MRL from Sandpoint, Idaho to Paradise, Montana and then down to St. Regis, Montana.

The first shot is just a few miles out of Sandpoint, with fall colors surrounding.


The next shot is out along the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille. We got to spend some time hanging out by the lake and get this train.


Here's a train on the same stretch, only taken from up above track level this time.


The same curve from the opposite end of it with an eastbound.


A westbound loaded coal train crossing the Clark Fork River west of Colby, just a few miles from the Idaho-Montana border.

An easbound manifest crossing the border into Montana in Cabinet Gorge.


A ballast train coming out of Cabinet Gorge after exiting the curve in the previous shot.


One more at Cabinet Gorge.


The westbound Gas Local as it approaches Thompson Falls.

The Gas Local along the river west of Plains.


The Gas Local as it comes into Paradise off of the 10th Sub.


A eastbound empty grain train coming by the depot in Paradise.


A westbound loaded coking coal train coming off of the bridge over the Clark Fork River into Paradise.


An easbound manifest coming past the natural springs a couple of miles east of Paradise.

The view off of the back porch of the riverside cabin at Quinns Hot Springs Resort.


A wesbound rolls along the Clark Fork River near Quinns. In a moment the train will duck into a tunnel on a tight curve.


A westbound loaded coal train rolls across the unique bridge 208, one of several bridges crossing the Clark Fork within a few short miles.


Crusing through the woods near the siding of Toole. Only a few years prior to this, a semaphore would have been where that signal is.


An eastbound empty coal train approaching Toole. Looks like new ties are due to be put in service soon.

Purdy country up there...I visit on a yearly basis. The Mullan Pass windows have started again so traffic will be up and down on the west end...

Hey Austin, do you have any idea when the work on the tunnel is supposed to be all completed? I hope they have been being more careful with work since the cave-in!

The way I understood it was the windows would last through summer and be done for now. That is if nothing else goes wrong...
