Thread: copying problems

    Default copying problems

I have msts working great with the GEXR route plus modifications I've made on a desktop computer with vista. I just bought a laptop with windows 7 and I coped the whole train simulator folder to it. The game and route work fine but all modifications to the route that I made and to some engines are gone. Everything on the route and engines have gone back to the original. Is there a way to copy everything with the modifications I've made. When I say modifications I mean like adding track to the route and painting the engines.

    Gents,

There is no problem with copying MSTS to anywhere.
The people who make mini routes do it ALL the time.
I run my MSTS on my D: drive and always have, I always have MSTS on its own drive.

My suggestion would be to do the copy again but move MSTS out of Program files, ie make a x:\MSTS directory and copy in there.
If you are good with playing with the registry, then change the location in the registry and it will act like normal.

    Cheers

Ahhh, but this is where the OP has made his mistake.

Yes, Once MSTS is Installed, it can be moved, copied, duplicated, etc. on the same computer without issue (even across multiple "Drives")..such as Mini-Routes, as you mention Derek.
-BUT, the OP having never INSTALLED it to his new computer, only COPIED a working MSTS from another system, will not have "Registry entries" to be edited...
--Now, MSTS will function without Registry Entries, but it will not save your GamePlay Preferences.

We can talk amongst ourselves till the OP comes back. :-)

I think the OP has 2 installs and he copied the wrong one.
If he copied the whole install, all of his changes would be there.

I was thinking along the same lines, as MSTS does not automatically make "backup" copies of files when they are edited. There should not even be a set of "Original" files left, unless the Op has an entire, manually created, "backup" of MSTS.
