Railworks 2 Newbie

Gooday Everyone,

I have been around here for quite some time mostly a MSTS player but finally Ive decided to dump it for railworks 2. I'm just looking for any suggestions on things to download from the file library i.e any better default updates for engines etc etc. I don't know if I am missing something but ive seen videos of people actually looking down and around in the cabs if locomotives as well as the controls moving but I can't seem to get the same results I don't know if that is only possible in add-on engines or is it possible in the default ones that come installed as well?

To look around in the cabs like that all you actually do is move your mouse in different ways. As far as I know there aren't
any real updates in the file library, but there are some good freeware.

At Railworks America there are two engines from the 1800's, a mid 1980's Amtrack engine, and a GP7, the green
seaboard engine.

And the controls moving is also possible in default engines, you can click on the controls of most engines and drag it
with the mouse to move it. That is, click, hold and drag.

Also if you would like to build routes Railworks offers a pretty decent route building area, you go into world editor to
place any locomotive or start to build, or edit any route.

I myself prefer to build buildings for the game.

And, if your switching in yards you can play conductor, switchman and/or brakeman by pressing the "8" key which will "unattach" the camera so you can "roam" freely.

Some things i would recomend getting: 3DTrains freeware scale rail and scale road, new freightcar sounds avalable from the FL, any of the payware locos from steam. all of the default locos get updates via steam whenever there is one, but you can change things like sounds via addons from the FL. some sounds are better than others and the GEVO sounds for the default ES44 are a must. If you go to SMM Digital there are quite a few freeware addons such as structures, signals, crossings, and a route.

ALL locos in rw have moving controlls and full 3D cabs unless they are beta such as the Doodlebug, and the alco swicher from greatnorthrener. If you are into older style rollingstock i would recomend GoldenAgeOfRailroading, this is GreatNorthreners site and there is rolling stock ranging from late 1800's to 1980's. most of the stuff in the FL here are good, but there are some which are not as good. if the pic dosen't look good just ask about it and someone will tell you if it is worth downloading.
