    Default Fairbanks-Morse H-16-44

    Started these in the C&NW thread since that's the first I'm skinning for, but eventually these will be in PO&N and IndustRail colors too.

    One each long hood forward and short hood forward.

    Still working on getting the colors right for the older long hood forward model, maps a little different than the short hood forward. ARN is also different since it only has a 3 digit number.

    Newer short hood almost done.

    No 1950s style cabs available now, Paul used the generic switcher controls and I did my usual lighting effects.

    Experiment;

    Alternate side console style.

    While we're at it, some repainting tips;

    If you have an undecorated grey model to start with it's easier, if not make one - delete and clean up all the logos, lettering, and weathering as much as you can, change color to greyscale. Increase brightness and contrast, choose a transparent background color (I use magenta since it's unlikely to show up in a train) and blank out unneeded sections.

    Fast way to do color schemes is to set background color, drag a rectangle and hit the delete key. Which of course loses all the detail, but;

    If you have the overlay visible while working in the underlying base layer you can see where the colors have to be changed and the overlay preserves the detail.

    Using PEV mesh viewer as you're painting, save the image and reload the mesh viewer to see the effects of what you're doing before merging layers.

    After getting the scheme I save and commit, clone that and add lettering, keeping the unlettered as a backup in case I want to change lettering or logos. After getting the nice clean shiny new loco put it to work so it gets nice and dirty.

    I'm still working on weathering techniques, but the layers with different opacity levels still work the best.

    Time to get weird, I've done alternate color schemes for Chicago Metro and IndustRail, now for the PO&N;

    Seems to fit right in with the others, gotta change the numbering color from green to yellow.

    Now to clone those and make the dirty versions.
