One thing I do notice is quite a bit of people who has been with us for while( a year or more) would post their problem, question, or comment in the wrong board. If it's activity, sound, or route problem, they would post it in MSTS or general board and I have to move it to right place. And sometimes they would mention Train Simulator without Microsoft or Railworks added to the title name in their post. They expect us to figure out what the problem is with very little information. There are several TS games and they think they are compatible. For example; One member bought Train Simulator 2013 and downloaded stuff for MSTS and tried to load up in the game anf finds it doesn't work that way after we explained to him. What are we? Mind readers? Hello! One thing I really hate the most is very bad speller, grammar and punctuation, and text message or chat room. For bad speller, grammar and punctuation, Do they really do that bad in schools?

And another thing, I just saw this post and I like it! Good call and you put it very politely, Vince! https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...99#post1818099

This sort of thing need to stop...Period...

I heard about this Grandmother that received a letter completely written in all that gobbledygook from her granddaughter. She told the Granddaughter that if she wanted to receive any future letters back to use proper English.

Not everyone knows all of these terms...and new ones continue to get invented everyday! It's one thing doing it with friends from school or work that you are certain knows them, but this forum has a huge range in the age groups & backgrounds, and not everyone is a friend that we know will understand what we say. I would much rather see a term misspelled or even the wrong term used, then seeing some weird letter or number of the alphabet in a response, and having to try "2" figure out if "2" means TWO or TO!

Use proper English, or I'm not responding either...I don't have time to spend all day translating requests for help, before I can even understand what you want!

The big question is.WHY should WE get upset with these people.OUR installations work.I started my own thread on this topic of courtesy and etiquette and I was surprised by the number of replies I received.Numerous people reminded me of the issue that we are addressing here.Research,Preparation and simply reading instructions rapidly seem to be a dying art.Add to that, simple thanks is also hard to come by.The thing that drives me nuts is when you post assistance to somebody and they dont bother to give you an update as to whether it worked or not,or even if they are still alive! Add to that, even if they DO respond it is in a "foreign" language filled with crap like 'LOL","BTW'.I am sorry, but I am 50 years old and have no desire to learn cryptography! The point is,wy are we wasting OUR time on writing about people who could care less about the time WE are expending on THEM.Sometimes I think Mr Burns may be a little to harsh, but lately I am finding he is right on the money. I'm not crazy about all the little short cuts rather then spelling it out either, I'm a few generations behind. But there are times when these are better used. Example: So may of these posts are BS . Spelling that out would cause more of a problem then the abbreviation.

I can understand the annoyance of everyone here - sometimes i find it hard work to understand what someone is getting at. If a post has so little information that i have to guess what the problem might be then i don't offer an answer.

The short text message-like abbreviations are fine in a text meesage, in order to cut down on the message size or cost. But if someone is trying to describe and/or cure a technical problem in a forum where they are not charged by the number of characters, then to me it is indicative of someone who wants to take shortcuts - and in MSTS as we all know, that doesn't work - Therefore i keep quiet. I will stop short of saying that it is rude and disrepectful, but it is certainly lazy and a is sign that the person will not follow advice or instructions - thus turning what should be a simple help topic into a saga.

I do not have time to waste on people who can't listen. However, i have also offered help and advice to people in Spanish, French and Portuguese here, after some very poorly written first requests due to not having English as a first language (via private messages so as not to annoy everyone) - this can take a huge amount of time what with different terminology etc. but it's very rewarding when you know that you have helped someone out.

My point is, try to take a reasoned judgement as to whether the subject of your help is going to try hard to get it right and be appreciative - the general tone of a message and the use of language can give a general hint as to whether it will turn into a saga.

We must remember that this is a hobby, and if one knows that they are going to get annoyed by answering a particular message (or at least suspects), then why bother? There is a choice.

It all boils down to being a simple matter of courtesy - if it is shown in the first place, then it is more likely that it is worth trying to help that person. If someone can't be bothered to communicate in a clear manner with me, then i can't be bothered to respond - it is that simple.

By the way - thanks BNSF1959, i had always wondered what IIRC meant, i had seen it so many times and wondered.

Maybe if they earned computing on a C-64 where it took 4 lines of code to clear the screen, they'd understand instead of expecting instant gratification.
