There is one more that I don't know what TTFN means. I see it in some cell phone text message and in forum in members' signature. Does anyone know what it is?

A favourite gripe of mine is when a member closes off a sentence or paragraph with the :-) marks instead of a straight period. It takes many times longer than proper English to print. Besides that, I do not know the meaning of them.

:-) is a text version of a smiley face.

TTFN means "Ta Ta For Now." or Bye Bye for now.

If I recall Correctly...This is really OLD...Long before cell phones, the Internet, & Text Messaging. Dates back to WWII: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TTFN

Tigger from Winnie The Pooh, used to say this...

Good read here, lot's of good honest laughs. I actually learned a couple new ones reading this. IIRC and TTFN. In continuance of a good laugh, I agree, the new people need to take the time to read some of the basic stickys in the forums in regards to installing msts in general, and about installing addons, and needing to check for proper msts operation after each and every install. If they are too lazy to do that and follow the install directions, then they can KMA. But in regards to some of the old posts that get dug up....I agree with a previous post, to find some of those ancient posts, while ridiculous, those posters should be given some kind of reward. I also think anyone pulled over in a smart car for speeding, or any Schnieder driver pulled over for speeding not be given tickets, but rewards instead!

The use of shorthand and abbreviations like TTFN PLZ THX all date to telegraph & teletype, where we had to pay for messages by the character.

There are some legitimate gripes listed here, but frankly, I came away from reading this thread as a bunch of grumpy old men pissing and moaning about the generational gap between folks who otherwise share a common hobby. Vent if you must, but try to remember how you were as 20 something's...

When I was in my 20's, I didn't have any of this stuff. I was working and dirt biking and snowmobiling. Now I'm sitting in front of this darn computer getting fat, no cardio, waiting to throw a clot!

No offense intended Isobel... I was channeling my inner Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon... I think that's Otto on the left.

CB, I'm sure that the way you spoke amongst your peers was nothing like the way that your parents (or grandparents) spoke to each other. I know that was the case for me... That's the point I was trying to make, and perhaps not very clearly.

I grew up speaking face to face, and personally don't understand my co-workers texting or instant-messaging each other from across the office versus getting up and walking the 200 feet between them. But hey, it works for them, and as long as they don't expect me to conform to their way of communicating, that's fine with me.
