Neil, I've really enjoyed the last few series that you have been posting, so nice to see more of the train then just the front of engines..

Thanks Neil we have a order of GE ES44 being painted by the kind folks at MSVR with a brand new logo and plain jane paint. Our shops don't have a painter that can do a great job like the folks at MSVR.

Managed to catch one of the rather elusive ESRR SD70MAC's as it led two SD40-2's out to start pulling some coal loads from all the mines.

MSVR's latest acquisition is 25 former UP SD9043MACs, 10 from UP itself, as well as 15 from EMD. The units are being rebuilt almost from the rails up to turn them internally into SD70ACes (much like NS is planning on doing), and are being designated SD90ACes. The first 2 to be completed are 2200 and 2203. 2201 is awaiting paint in Salinas, and 2202 is still having its engine work done. Along for the ride is our research and test car 252 (ex-SP 252, nee-WP Silver Canyon). We picked this car up for cheap, and rebuilt it. It's also on its maiden voyage along with the SD90s. The set is seen testing on an Oakland-Salt Lake intermodal over Donner Pass. The power will be swapped in Sparks, where another set of engines will take the train to SLC.

Stopping for a quick minute at Colfax to inspect the test car's generator.

Car inspection is complete, we're about ready to take off, but first: a photo of the 252:

A shot from the cab looking back:

    One last shot.

If all goes well with this project, we plan on approaching CP for purchase of some of their remaining SD90s for rebuild candidates.
