    Default Wake Up Call?

Well over the past few days, My friend has showed me a lot of models from Trainz 2006 and other Trainz Products. Some of these models look 10 times better than the models we have right now.

Now this is NOT a thread to bash or trash anybody in particular, but a thread to point out a few flaws that us MSTSer's have that Trainz users have improved on.

Heres some examples of the level of detail that models in Trainz has...

    http://www.rrmods.com/images/ns40201.jpg

Now some of our MSTS models do have a lot of detail in them, but a lot of models don't have very much detail, and are rather blan and more or less generic. Also with Trainz models they have detailed specifics per unit, as with MSTS units most people blow off these details with the units.

Now if we are gonna have MSTS for years and years to come, I think we need to pull together and make some much needed better detailed models and make some new models that us MSTSer's have been lacking for years.

Also please don't make this into a flamewar, this is just a post to point out some details from Trainz models to MSTS models.

I think that one of the reasons why these models look better in TRS is that it has a better Graphics Engine than MSTS and there is a limit of what can be achieved with the old one used by MSTS, but am happy with MSTS rolling stock like this below.

Don't know what their equivalents look like in TRS because I ditched all versions as soon a I looked at them, their not animated splined rails and blades in frog-less switches not having been improved out of the box.

I'd almost agree with that, with one exception. (the PC Geep excluded), the models you show here all look like HO scale model trains. I do not mean this offensively and understand it's just the way Trainz displays the screen.

I think it's best to focus on realism and encourage model painters and builders to do the same, no matter what simulator your using.

Yeah I understand what you mean, but when your repainting a model, and you miss logos, or several road specific details is just not what people want to see in a repaint. And yes I know it takes a lot of time to repaint, and I do respect repainters, as I've done repainting in the past and a little in the present. Payware dealers do a heck of a job in making models for MSTS, but freeware model engine makers sometimes leave a lot of detail out, that should be improved on with this sim, as we will have it for a long time to come.

Yeah Trainz models look better in their shape viewer but they don't look bad in sim either, Trainz lacks what we have in quantity, and rolling stock, but we lack what they have in freeware details.

I enjoy MSTS a lot, but I have to trash a lot of freeware stuff because it lacks a lot of basic stuff, like air hoses! With what I've seen with Trainz stuff, most if not all their stuff has air hoses. At least you could put an air hose on it, and a coupler that doesn't look like a square box (on a American / Canadian model).

I agree that the TRS graphics engine. Joe's stuff is pretty good but in my opinion, not the best.

The best content out there (again, in my opinion) is from Mr Cornell.

Bill's UP SD40-2 United Way Unit is also pretty darn nice!

I'm not here to tell you which sim is better or not. I am just showing you some more locomotives that TRS has to offer other than RRMODS units.

    Take care,

Yeah, both MSTS and Trainz has their Pros and Cons, I just wished MSTS had some better freeware models.

But, either or, I know I'm not leaving MSTS anytime soon, even when MSTS-2 was coming, I wasn't even planning on leaving MSTS.

So hopefully we can get some updated models in the future.

I've tried TrainZ and RailSimulator - I feel neither can touch MSTS/MSTSbin as a simulator of the way trains actually run; both can surpass MSTS/MSTSbin for graphics display and extras such as loading cars and weather. I use the one that lets me run trains where the trains can have characteristics that are close to real trains.

Oh yeah, I know the physics are next to none in MSTS compaired to the other sims, but we lack quality in our models. Rolling stock has good quality, and so do routes, but our engine models lack the same quality, seems when someone builds a new engine, they miss out a lot of details, and give it a generic coupler, generic quality outer cab, and just aliase it to default or no cab.

If you want to see a detailed MSTS model (UK I'm afraid) have a look here http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtop...?f=241&t=91697 .
