    Cool Sherman Hill

A bunch of you guys talked me into this one.

3DTrains, in partnership with Stream Lines, Inc., is proud to announce that a presale beta of Sherman Hill for MSTS and Open Rails is available for purchase at a special introductory price.

The beta presale will include the full route product when released later this summer. The route does not, however, include any trains or rolling stock. That's where SLI comes in, and they have agreed to produce a special train and rolling stock pack for this route. Note that the set will be a separate purchase.

The route is still being tweaked, including adding signaling, finishing object textures, as well as adding more terrain textures. A beta build will be uploaded later today, followed by bi-weekly builds (Monday and Friday). Participation in the discussion forum is optional, but your input will ensure that the final route will be among the very best available for MSTS and Open Rails. Additional screens and details ill be posted over the weekend.

Marc, you just became my A#1 simulator pal!!! GREAT NEWS!!! I know you're still working on it and all but if possible, could I ask a few questions?

I gather there will be track from Cheyenne to Laramie including 3-4 track out of Cheyenne to Laramie. The back way as I always call it. One key thing from the Trainz route was the chemical plant was not included that sits outside Cheyenne along Otto Road. Will that industry be part of the route?

What about the station in Cheyenne. That would be a key building. Will it look like the real one? (I know, guys, some are saying DUMB question.)

Will there be some trackage at the wye at Spear for the UP going to Denver and how far?? What role will the BN/BNSF play and how far will trackage go out of Cheyenne towards Nebraska and Laramie towards Utah?

Will Scalerail be used? If so, will it be version 1 or version 2??

Thanks for doing this route. It's one I've wanted to see in MSTS.

This is great news... But just out of curiousity -- As somebody who was stationed at the Wyoming Missile Ranch, (FE Warren AFB). How much of that is going to be showing?

    Take Care,

    Stef

The route includes both refineries, Frontier Oil on the east side of Cheyenne, as well as Dyno Nobel at Wycon (formerly Wycon Chemical). The plant at Wycon will be based on my tour of the facility back in 2005, and when the route is complete (with activities), it'll include proper named track and loading/unloading info.

Pretty much the remainder of the route is based on my 2005 trip, so the depot will be modeled without the new glass flyover extension, which I find a bit ugly anyway. Also included is the Steam shop, roundhouse and other bits around the turntable.

The track south from Speer only goes for a couple of miles, and only enough is included so as to generate AI traffic. From Cheyenne, the route begins about 5-miles east of the depot, and a few miles past the yard at Laramie. This represents only the southern portion of the Laramie sub.

Only v1 of ScaleRail is available at the moment, but once v2 is released, you only need to install the new shapes. The v2 textures for the route will be included as a separate download.

Only the interchange yard and about 11-miles of mainline toward Denver for BNSF is included, and mainly as a means for AI traffic. North from the yard, the BNSF track ends just before entering the gates of the base.

Had a chance to run this route earlier today, and it's a gem in the rough. Thanks for including the steam shop -- gives me another place to run my business train...
