I've recently gotten Microsoft Train Simulator but it's not working on my windows 10 computer, I go to hit play and nothing ever happens, Is there a way I can play it?

    Hi,
As others will confirm, MSTS runs as well under Windows 10 as it does under Win 7!
You must follow all the instructions applicable to Windows 7; also, if your PC has an AMD graphics card, the fix must be applied.
    See this "sticky" : https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...s-10-Confirmed

    Cheers,

Find the shallow end of the pool and wade in.

Seriously, you can start by reading and studying the thread that slipperman referred to. ALL 14 pages..., then try to apply some of the answers to your specific situation. After all MSTS is only a program, it can be uninstalled if you make a mistake.

You'll make some mistakes, you'll learn. Have fun. When you have questions about something, post here and provide all the details you can think of, that will help others determine the best solution for you.

Believe me, you really cleanly cleared the hurdle by simply posting something that was readable. Good for you!
    Cheers, Gerry

First, you have to understand that Microsoft Train Simulator (MSTS) was written for Windows 98 and 2000, and was released in 2001. Microsoft gave it a little support for the first couple of years, then stopped. They let others re-release it later as $10 or $20 software (it was actually only $30 when first released), but eventually shut everything down including their whole game operation (including Flight Simulator, though the final "X" version of that is still supported by other sources for professional use). So you're dealing with 15-year-old software that was a bit flaky to start with, and was never intended to be installed let alone used in a computer running anything beyond XP.

Many of us have contributed our experiences over the years regarding the tweaks necessary to get MSTS to run in modern Windows - you can't just install it and use it, like modern software. If you ask Microsoft, and it turns up in their software lists at all, it's in a big NOT COMPATIBLE listing, but if you read the instructions in the stickies here and at the STEAM4ME web site, and follow them very carefully understanding what Windows wants and how to get around it, you can run MSTS in Windows 10, or 8, or 7. If you DON'T read and understand those threads and articles, you won't get it to work. Sorry.

The workaround if all you want to do is run trains is to use some other train simulator. There are several commercial ones that are currently maintained and work well in modern Windows. Open Rails also works in modern Windows, and is free and open source, but it's a work in progress that's good but by no means perfect. Open Rails has the benefit of being able to use the scenery and trainset assets of MSTS. But if you want to do more than run trains with it you will have to get MSTS to work because several necessary editors are only available as part of MSTS.

Start by reading the Win10 sticky linked above. Also, look at:
Basic Installation Instructions for Windows 7 (Windows 10 is similar): https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...-or-64-bits-OS
    Steam4Me instructions page: http://msts.steam4me.net/tutorials/i...g_msts_w7.html
If you have a AMD video card or chip and use Windows 8 or 10, a driver patch is needed: https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...driver+windows

Oh yes, and read this on how to ask for help and information that's needed: https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...SKING-FOR-HELP

None of us here are paid to provide technical support, and most of us would rather be running trains or creating scenery or running trains or making trains or doing whatever else life provides the opportunity for. So you have to take a little responsibility and attempt to follow the instructions. If you don't know enough about how the computer works, you'll have to learn that too. In a way, making MSTS work is a form of hacking, but it's not (yet, anyway) illegal - unless you got a copy illegally.
