DTG releasing a new sim

Just as an aside, I hope that they learned their lesson with TSW as they now get ready to release Flight Sim World.

Maybe they have been trying to push too much out the door in a short space of time.

Watched the promo video, obviously a great deal of enthusiasm but as we saw with TSW not much in the way of detail - how many types of aircraft (I didn't see any "heavy" passenger jets), whether it's the whole world or Thalion Airbus A320 separate parts of the world.

Early access is a shift in policy from TSW though remains to be seen whether this is a gimmick or a real learning experience from their TSW muddle.

They need to do a better job on this than they did with TSW as there is much more competition in high quality flight sims already out there.
With train sims the competition fit in different niches so in some ways they don't compete directly with each other as much as with flite sims.We'll see.

I think before plumping for early access will keep an eye on what the wise folk at FS dot com and (cough) Avsim are saying. In particular whether any of the team working on the programme are known in flight simming circles and what their level of competency is. We do need a more up to date flight sim but it needs to be a worthy successor, not another "toy".

Thanks for the heads up Bruce, this is very interesting news, but, they don't say which engine this new game is built on, is this a deliberate ploy to stop any possible moaning and groaning beforehand, if it is UE4, for example, however, it's going to be 64bit and DX11 for starters, so, that's good, unsure how many cores are going to be able to be accessed and what other PC specifications are required, it's all very secretive, but, I'm sure my system is highly capable, anyway. I'll see how much dosh they want up front for this BETA, if it's only a tenner then I'll give it a go, I'll dust off my joystick in readiness, it can't be too far way from being released on Steam, I wouldn't have thought. Chocks away, lads.

Is it really, that doesn't sound too encouraging then really, as it's already 11 years old, and counting.

Someone on the American forum suggested Aerofly FS 2 was worth looking at, it's early access on Steam, but, a little bit expensive to obtain everything all at once, however, it's developed by some Germans and looks extremely promising, they have also released a lot of free content to encourage folks to get interested in their offering, so, another Simulator worth keeping an eye on, if, FSW goes loop the loop downwards......

I tried Aerofly a few months ago but wasn't that impressed - heavy jets that lifted off the runway at 80 knots and no feel of inertia that you get flying the big iron in FS9 or FSX. There's a bit more detail emerging over at Flightsim Dot Com about FSW and I'm somewhat dismayed to read apparently the initial release won't include any form of jet airliner types - prop planes only. When I fly I live to operate the big stuff - DC10's, Tristars, the 'Buses and 7n7's. Not really into general aviation. We will see.

Train Sim users who have been around since 2009 get a PAID ACCESS ONLY TWELVE DAY BETA and full MSRP for "TSW" but those who own Flight sim school get this Flight Sim world free? WOW. Good for those customers. <-- that I mean, genuinely.

As for dovetail, they've gotten their last penny from me. This disaster of a release that loyal RW customers paid for is abhorrent. There seems to be no consistency, no set guidelines. I should've gotten a refund when I had the chance.

Which explains to some extent why Flight School has been pulled from sale...

Well if the early access is £25 or less I will probably still be tempted as opposed to possibly paying £40 or more for the full version.

However do bear in mind the little sting in the tail, is that early access software is excluded from Steam's 2 hour refund policy so once they've got your money it's gone - even if DTG tanked and went belly up in a couple of months.
