Thread: Diesel Railcar Simulator

  1. Default Diesel Railcar Simulator

    Hi all!

It's Oskari from Lapioware. Some people here might remember me from the early 2000's BVE scene when I did BVE Route Randomizer, Random London Underground route generator and a bunch of other stuff. Since then I've been working on a brand new simulator which is now released.

The sim models British Railways DMU Classes 112, 122, 126 and 127 in the late 1960's. The focus is on realistic physics and operation. The AI is also quite sophisticated and can operate the trains in a very human-like way.

British DMUs probably aren't very popular on this side of the pond, but you might be interested in supporting the next version. It'll include more routes and rolling stock, also from the US. The rough plans for the next versions are listed here.

I would just like to add, I had the pleasure of testing this during development and it is an excellent sim with lots of potential. It incorporates quite a number of features that show up the bigger sims - including excellent track sounds, realistic cab sway and an immersive timetable mode. Well worth a look.

Looks very interesting, would be even more interesting with a longer route and Classes 117 & 120.

One to keep an eye on though.

Thanks for your input! The thing with long routes is that the running times can become very long for some services, and there's currently no option to save mid-run in DRS. The longest stopping services for the 35+ mile main line in the current version take about 65 minutes which is probably more than most people are willing to spend.

If I add the classes you mentioned and a longer route (how long?), will you promise to buy a copy?

  5. Thumbs up

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the kind stranger who bought a copy and tipped generously! I hope you don't feel let down by me posting a couple of free keys here! As a new user my posts still need to be approved by a moderator and at the time of posting nobody had yet made a purchase. At least the mods here are faster than those at UKTrainSim who still haven't approved my initial announcement.

Purchased it earlier this evening. Graphics are a bit low res, but overall it is a good start.

The train motion is better than TS2017 and 10 times better than TANE.

Ah it was you, thanks! My posts are already outdated by the time they get published. If the free keys eventually get posted here, I'll make it up for you by giving the next major version for free.

I'm also glad you appreciate the effort put in simulating the vehicle suspension! Graphics and models will be outsourced to a greater extent in the next major version. (If professional content creators are reading this, feel free to e-mail me your contact info for future reference)

No free version required thank you buddy. I paid a bit over the asking price to show support. Bit confusing but it was my youngest daughters credit details, i have no way of paying online.

I love the modernisation dmu's, it's what i did on BR for more years than i care to remember (mechanical fitter).

Hopefully the project will carry on into the next versions. Would be a shame to see something that has great potential, not come to fruition.

Just spotted your earlier post buddy.

    I did, i did. LOL

I understand what you are saying about long scenarios. But i sit here sometimes for 3 hrs running a scenario on the Paddington - Plymouth route in TS2017

    Hi Lapioware,
Many thanks for the free key (I think) I used the a73RFj.... key!
I've only tried it with the simple controls up to now, but it looks very promising, and I love the sounds and the cab-sway.

I'll certainly purchase a copy, very soon.

    Cheers,
    Ged
