The stands were a bit thinner but the targets looked just like that. These were main line targets. The yard switches are just ground throws like in the Monon route.
Here is the best shot I've found of a milepost in 100's of photos. It doesn't look much different than the mileposts today:

A possible fun fact about the mileposts is hinted in the first few pages of the 1978 track profile: "NOTE: UNDERLINED MILEPOSTS INDICATE LOCATION OF INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMISSION MONUMENTS." If you look at the track chart in the area in question, it appears as though every third mile is underlined. This may mean that there were mileposts only physically planted every three miles. The milepost would be the ICC "monument." I see that the CN 1999 track profile shows the same mileposts as underlined.
Also, here is another photo of Tuscola that shows the other IC signal, the Type G Tri-lite:
I'm not sure what signals were where, but after searching, as I said, hundreds of IC photos, it appears to me that they could be anywhere and a mix of the two types is possible in one location. It looks like the mainline may have more of the Type G Tri-lite signals as "Home Signals" protecting junctions, and the big-head traffic lights for intermediate signals. The traffic light signal in the above photo is actually a Train Order signal for TY tower in the background. I think the Type G signals were newer, and could have been replacements for the older traffic light signals. I'll try to get some better info on this if possible. The newer 1990s CTC signals are also traffic light style but with a smaller target head and no Darth Vader hoods.
The IC was modernized in the early 1990s. Prior to 1990, it still looked a lot like it did at the end of steam. It really looked like a different railroad after modernization. Ed Moyers started it and Hunter Harrison finished it. RIP
Nice route of yours and really like the scenery also the atmosphere in Edgewood also Effingham also the other picture that I couldn't see the name on the side of the station.
Rick, the Monon 3 set that I've slowly been working on includes IC locomotives and rolling stock. Are you adding track to represent the IC? (for eventual release) Or just messing around? (Or is this a new route?)
