With the UE4 editor you can take anyones mesh asset from the game and export it out as a 3d model,
Not something you would want to happen with a commercial project.

Oh and happy new year :-)

I completely disagree with this, if you just develop your own game format(like me) then that will not be possible(or very very hard) if you develop it right.
So that is not true, but if you use the unreal engine format, then yes it MAY be possible.
Even for the unreal format there seems to be a way of encrypting the .pak file(i believe some games do that too).
BTW. are you 401sly from youtube?
If yes, impressive what you did whith your signalling demo!

And SurvivorSean, i am developing one if you are interrested:
    https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...s!Help-needed!

    @Edin:
I am afraid you are right that DTG is going the same way like N3V.

@muskokaandtahoe, i cannot agree more with you!

TANE was a disaster!! Frankly, I don't see NV3 doing any better with a newer sim.

Read what I put again and my point is
UE4............If you PAK a file then you can't open it in the editor
So you cannot leave your game unpacked and available to be opened in the editor because all the assets can be exported.

Yes same developer as you tube

I completely agree that if you got the project files, you obviosly can export them.
But isn't that with (pretty much) any engine?
But from pak files the models can be exported too, if you just google.
But they can be protected, so thats fine.
Still i recommend to diy your own files so you can write editors for them and such.(ofc. this can be done with unreal files too, but this will make things easier)

    offtopic:
BTW. good work on your signaling again, i really liked it, spend almost 2 hours playing it.
Are you planning on continuing your work on driving trains?(instead of signalling them?)

It should be said that, with an active community, the ability to take an existing model apart isn't much of a problem in practice, because people find out and spread the word. MCX can convert any MSFS model into a 3D mesh. It can read and export a model in any format you like, actually - 3DS, OBJ, X, you name it. But you're not going to get away with stealing work, because people notice, and it will come back to you (it's been tried, and word spread fast).

Of course, it might depend a bit on the community's desire to police itself. The FS community generally does a good job.

You are completely right, still, peaple are still doing it all the time actually.
But luckily, getting models from a game is getting harder every game release, so thats good.

Yeah things have moved on well from demo,
The project is modular of which Signalling is the first,
Driving trains,Fireman, being a shunter or a guard etc etc are being all in the big picture.
But you shouldn't expect your A-Typical Train Sim
The intention is to be entirely different to anything gone before.

STEAM early access release some time this year. with Multiplayer functionality.

    Sly

Oh and back on topic it will not have any editors ( exception being a timetable import )

I don't quite understand what you mean with this sentence:
But you shouldn't expect your A-Typical Train Sim
Could you explain a bit more?

And how do you know TSW won't have any editors?

    edit:
I maybe do understand your post, so you are not making a train sim, but more a railway job sim?

Trainz has turned into a joke. I have every version from CE in Dec 2001 up to and including TANE Deluxe.

No more, that is the end for me. As far as i am concerned i was lied to when i pre-ordered.

As to what TANE was actually going to be.
